Our 6th graders have been reading a book on the life of Teresa of
Calcutta, the Catholic nun who dedicated her life to serving the poor
in India. The children have responded to the graphic descriptions of
the conditions endured by the poor.
We've discussed some pretty sobering realities in our world,
including the fact that 25,000 children under the age of 5 die daily
due to starvation and other preventable causes. The kids have
decided to do something about it by raising $10,000 and donating it
to Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity. The 6th graders felt that
people wouldn't miss their pennies. We did the math and figured
that a million pennies equals $10,000.
We're going to do this!
Mother Teresa was awesome. "By blood, I am Albanian. By
citizenship, an Indian. By faith, I am a Catholic nun. As to my calling, I
belong to the world. As to my heart, I belong entirely to the Heart of
Jesus." We thought that was pretty cool.
Please send your child to school with any pennies you can spare.
We’ll have containers throughout the school to collect pennies.
Please spread the word!
