Fraction Bingo 4th or 5th Grade Jennifer Leandres Benchmark: SLC 7: Illustrates and identifies equivalent fractions, including fractions greater than 1 and mixed numbers. Materials: • One “bingo” card • Pencil • Paper • Colored squares or bingo chips Procedure: Have students choose sixteen fractions in lowest terms and write one of each fraction in each of the sixteen squares on the attached “playing card.” Possible fractions include: ¼, 1/8, ¾, ½, 1/6, 3/5, 2/7, 1/10, 5/6, 2/3, 1/5, 2/5, 3/7, 5/6, 1/9, 5/8, 1, 4/9, 1/3. Then write on the board or call out equivalent fractions that are not in lowest terms. Have students write out the process they would use to reduce the fraction to lowest terms. Then they should find the corresponding square containing the fraction they found. Target Observations: • Lots of fractions are actually the same when put in lowest terms • Fractions can be found in lowest terms by using division Some Equivalent fractions: 2/18 9/12 2/16 10/12 8/18 15/18 15/25 6/21 12/18 3/9 10/50 12/28 3/30 6/15 4/6 4/24 7/7 5/10 15/24 5/15 Name________________
