Community Service Application

Community Service Application
Regional Animal Shelter does accept Community Service applicants, but please plan ahead.
Due to the time and limited resources that it takes to train each new volunteer, not all community
service applicants are accepted.

High school government class students: you must be willing and able to stay as a volunteer for 6 months.

Court/judicial/DSS applicants: Your shifts will primarily involve cleaning and facilities work.

Youth Community Service Project
Many youth contact us to fulfill their community service requirements for school or scouting activities. In order to
volunteer at the Regional Animal Shelter, you must be 16 years or older, attend orientation, complete volunteer
training, and be available to commit to volunteering for 6 months of time. If you cannot fulfill these requirements, you
can complete one of the projects listed below or create your own project.
These projects are to be done on your own schedule. Unfortunately, we do not have staff or volunteers available to
supervise these activities. Keep track of what you are doing and how many hours it takes. Once you are done, bring
the completed project to Regional Animal Shelter during shelter hours, along with the record of hours that you
completed. The Volunteer Coordinator or Senior Volunteer on staff can sign the paperwork for you.
Fundraisers
Money donations help us purchase food, supplies, and equipment to keep the animals warm, fed, and healthy.
 Dog Wash: Like a car wash, a dog wash is an event where volunteers wash dogs and other pets in exchange
for donations of money. You can either have a set rate per animal, or let donors give any amount of money
they want. All it takes to hole this fundraiser is a couple of buckets, water hoses, towels, quality pet shampoo
and brushes.
 Bake sale or lemonade stand
 Bottle drive
 Coin drive or penny wars
Things you can make


Dog biscuits: Find a good recipe and bake some dog biscuits! We can hand them out at the shelter after you
drop them off, or they are a nice puppy-friendly addition to any bake sale! You can find dog cookie recipes
online or by checking out cookbooks for dogs at the library.
Dog blankets: Dogs need something comfortable to lie on! Blankets can be any size, made from any washable
material and stuffed with batting. You can also make “no sew” blankets!
Drives
Hold a drive for supplies that are needed!



Leave boxes at your school or church for donations
Ask a local store if you can set up in front of their store to collect donations (stores that sell pet supplies
would love the extra business!)
Distribute flyers to your neighbors telling them you will be back on a given day to collect donations. They can
leave them on their doorstep for you to pick up, or even bring them to you before the date.
