Pastoral Call Update – from Karen Dale
I just wanted to update everyone with the Call process for a new Pastor. Three Committees have been formed, the
Call Committee, the Profile Committee and the Survey Committee.
Here is a quick overview of the function of each committee and the rough timeline for each committee.
The Survey Committee will take the blank Church Profile from the Synod and create a survey for the Congregation to
fill out. There will be a couple forums and once the Survey is completed and compiled the Profile Committee will
answer the questions on the Church Profile based on the survey answers. The Profile will be submitted to the Synod,
meanwhile the Call Committee will start meeting and become familiar with the questions and answers on the Church
Profile.
The Synod will send us ‘resumes’ of the available candidates based on our Church profile. The Call Committee will
review. During this time we will not be able to share any information regarding the candidates.
The Survey Committee, Rae Anne Tolonen, Deb Schroeder and Sara Tackett have met and developed the following
tentative time line.
Nov 10 – Rae Anne will present finished survey to the Council.
Nov 16 – This will be the First Forum to be held after church and will introduce the survey.
Nov 16 -- Surveys will be placed in church mailboxes to be completed
Nov 18 -- The Second Forum will be held at 3:00 p.m.
Nov 20 – The Last Forum will be held at 7:00 p.m.
Nov 24 – All surveys in church mailboxes will be delivered by US Mail.
Dec 14 – Will be the deadline for completed surveys.
Dec 21 – Survey results will be reported to Profile Committee, Call Committee and Council
members. Survey results will also be communicated to the Congregation at this time.
The time line is a guideline and may change. We will keep you informed of any changes.

month.

Education Opportunities
The Thursday study group will be looking into the
importance of prayer in the growth of
spiritual life. The study is based on
the work of Joan Chittister, The
Breath of the Soul: Reflections on
Prayer, and Henri J. M Nouwen’s The
Only Necessary Thing: Living a
Prayerful Life. This will not be a
class in learning HOW to pray…it will
be a loving look at God’s desire to
share our lives and our desire to
move closer God in our daily lives.
The topic for November will be ‘What
is prayer?’ This group meets once a
month, the first Thursday of the
month. This month it will be on
November 6th at the church at 7:00.
The books are available at
Amazon.com but you wouldn’t need to purchase a book or
attend every session in order to be involved in this
community opportunity.
WELCOME PASTOR DEBRA DINDA AND PASTOR
AUGESTINE AND THANK YOU for presiding in worship
with us.

ON ALL SAINTS SUNDAY, Nov. 2 we will remember in
the intercessory prayers, anyone who
has passed away in the past year.
Please submit to the church office by
Oct. 30, the name of anyone you would
like to remember.
Please join us right after service each Sunday for an
Hour of Spiritual Formation. For the first two Sundays
in November, Adult Sunday school will continue our
experience of using the New Testament book of John
for the spiritual discipline of Lectio Divina. “In
Christianity, Lectio Divina (Latin for divine reading) is a
traditional Benedictine practice of scriptural reading,
meditation and prayer intended to promote communion
with God and to increase the knowledge of God's Word.
[1] It does not treat Scripture as texts to be studied, but
as the Living Word.” On November 16th a Call
Committee activity will be taking place instead of this
class. On November 23rd, we will be delving into the
Pagan background to many of our Christmas activities.
It is interesting how the church borrowed from the
Pagan world many activities that we now see as
Christian.
DEM BONES!
Join us on Saturday,
November 8,2014,
from 10:00 am to
1:00 pm if you dare!

hope is gone.
We will be studying the story of Elijah in the valley of dry
bones and dissecting owl pellets. Children of all ages
are welcome. We will have songs, games, and crafts.
Lunch will be served.
Please call the church office to register , but walkins are welcome!

Food Pantry Report:
THANK YOU TO
EVERYONE who worked so
hard at the Immanuel Food
Pantry on Saturday, October
11th. We served 287 families
with trust and grace. It was a
challenging day, but as usual, our St. James team did a
remarkable job. We gave out peanut butter and jelly this
month, the clients were very happy to receive the extra
protein as there was a shortage of meat.
Blessings Becky & DeAnna
.
NOW COLLECTING gently new/used winter hats, mittens
and scarves for our clients at Immanuel’s Food Pantry.
Please bring your donations to the church and place them
in the box in the Narthex (I found mittens at JoAnn
Fabric’s for $1.00 a pair)
WHY EQUAL EXCHANGE?
The majority of the world’s coffee and cocoa supply is
grown by small farmers. Despite the growing demand for
theses products, many of these farmer struggle to provide
for their families, receiving just a fraction of their crops’ full
market value.
Lutheran World relief and Equal Exchange are helping to
satisfy the world’s demand for coffee and cocoa while
improving the incomes and food security of the farmers
who grow them. They have coffee and cocoa projects in
11 countries around the world, reaching more than 42,000
farmers. In partnership with cooperatives and farmer
organizations, LWR and EE bring agricultural experts to
the farmers so that they can learn improved farming practices, post-harvest processing, and marketing skills.
When we order the products that we have for sale in the narthex, a portion of the purchase price benefit’s the LWR Small
Farmer Fund, which supports smallholder farmers and their families. We offer these products at our cost and hope you
will give them a try. We use an organic decaf coffee for our fellowship time after each worship service.
Next month I will highlight some of the products and give some background on their production and processing.
Meanwhile, have a cup of justice and drink up!

Answer to October’s Puzzle
The Visitor
On a lightly floured surface, roll out pastry to fit a 5-in. pie plate.
Transfer pastry to pie plate; trim to 1/2 in. beyond edge of plate.
Flute edges. Line unpricked pastry shell with a double thickness
of heavy-duty foil. Bake at 450° for 5 minutes. Remove foil;
bake 5 minutes longer. Cool on a wire rack.
For filling, in a small saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch and
salt. Gradually stir in water until smooth. Cook and stir over
medium heat until thickened and bubbly. Reduce heat; cook and
stir 2 minutes longer. Remove from the heat. Gradually stir 2
tablespoons hot filling into egg yolks; return all to the pan,
stirring constantly. Bring to a gentle boil; cook and stir 2 minutes
longer. Remove from the heat. Gently stir in butter, lemon juice
and peel. Pour into crust.
For meringue, in a small bowl, beat egg white and lemon juice
on medium speed until soft peaks form. Gradually beat in sugar
on high until stiff, glossy peaks form and sugar is dissolved.
Spread evenly over hot filling, sealing edges to crust.
Bake at 350° for 10-12 minutes or until meringue is golden. Cool
on a wire rack for 30 minutes. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours
before serving.
Yield: 2 servings.
