December 2016 Issue 2 - Burnham on Crouch Primary School

BCPS Newsletter 14th December 2016
Dear Parent/Carer,
Thank you for all your support this term – it’s been a busy one with various sporting events and trips
and parents and carers have been very generous with their praise for the school and teachers. Here
are just a few comments:
“Thank you – I feel very lucky to have a school that supports my daughter so much.”
“I just wanted to pass on my gratitude to you for all that you do.”
“I just wanted to express that both my husband and I are very impressed with the changes that have
taken place in the last year or so.”
“We attended parents evening last night and were very happy with the strong characters of teachers
that have joined the school.”
“The school has changed so much over the last year and I can safely say it’s definitely for the better.”
“My boys can’t get enough of the school and that speaks volumes. You should be super proud of
yourselves and the school, as I know we all are.”
“Fantastic school, wonderful staff, I am so happy our daughter goes here.”
The website will finally be up and running in January so you will always be able to catch up on
previous newsletters for a summary of what’s been going on. We hope you will like the new design.
As always we have a few more staff updates. For those of you that regularly read the letters from
Miss Stock and our fortnightly newsletters you will already be aware of most of these changes, but
here is another reminder.
Butterfly class. Mrs Kana sadly decided to retire to Wales and could not be persuaded to commute!
We are very pleased that Mrs Wright, a very experienced EYFS teacher will be joining us in January
to work with Mrs Tindall in Butterfly class.
Year 1 Regrettably, Mrs Hull is still not well enough to come back to school but we are pleased to
confirm that Mrs Gough will be continuing to teach Panda class full time.
Year 2 Mrs Royce has now left to have baby number 3. Gorilla will be taught by Mrs Lynch and Mrs
Scott.
We also have two experienced teachers who will be working part-time as additional teachers in
Years 1 and 2; Mrs Elvidge and Mrs Woods. They will be an excellent addition to the already brilliant
team.
Year 3 Congratulations to Mr Thomas who will be on paternity leave at the start of term for two
weeks. Dolphin class will be taught by Mrs Stanford and Mrs Puxley during these two weeks.
In Year 5 Chameleon, Mrs Archer will continue to teach Monday to Wednesday and Mrs Stanford
will teach Thursday and Friday.
Trying to recruit the very best teachers and persuade them to travel to Burnham is an ongoing
challenge but as a school we are determined to only employ the best as we believe your children
deserve that.
As mentioned in several previous newsletters and the Parent Forum minutes, children will be given
their attendance percentage at the end of each term, the first one being given on the last day of
term. Children with 98% and above will be rewarded with a trip to the Rio cinema in January. Those
with 100% will be given a certificate and entered into a prize draw for a special prize at the end of
the school year. As explained before, your children get a fresh start each term so they have three
chances to achieve the celebrated 98% or above. As always, we have taken into account medical
conditions, operations and funerals etc. to make sure this is as fair as it can be. We are exceptionally
proud to say that over 44% of pupils have 100% this term. This is an amazing achievement!
Please check your children’s book bags at the end of term as some children will have received a book
token for their excellent behaviour this term.
For Fantastic Phonics – a Headteacher’s Award for Harry Tavener
Isabel Lavender from Eagle Class recently received "Student of the Year" from STARSTRUCK Theatre
School and will be taking her 2nd LAMDA exam (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts) on
18th December.
The Christmas Fete last Saturday raised an amazing £1,364.12. Thank you to the PTA and all those
who helped make this such a wonderful event.
Finally, we would like to wish you all a very peaceful and happy holiday. We hope you enjoy time
with your family and friends as we think of those who are no longer with us.
