FAMS
Keeping our Families Informed
Principals’ Note:
Dear FAMS Families,
Welcome to March, 2017! We have passed the halfway mark for
the 2016-17 school year and had a great first semester! We are
continually impressed by our students’ accomplishments both in
and outside of the classroom. Whether it be the Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, Science Olympiad, Envirothon, Music, Theater or
Sports. There are so many opportunities for our students to unite
their talents and passions and explore different aspects of school
life. We encourage all of our students to try something new, examine areas of interest beyond the school day and be a part of a
group that will help them find their passion.

PSSA testing is coming up in April. Seventh and eighth grade testing will be done online this year. If you have any questions or need
information, please call the school at 610-468-2335.
As always, we are thankful for the strong family and community
support that we receive at FAMS. Please remember that PTA is
always accepting new members who want to help the school and
our students. Also, take some time to read through this month’s
newsletter and continue to check the school website for events
(www.fleetwoodasd.org). Thank you for your continued support of
our school.

The 2016/17 FAMS Spelling Bee was
held on Wednesday, February 8th, in the middle
school library. Over forty students demonstrated their impressive "acumen" for spelling.
They were challenged with words such as
"anesthesia", "reminisce", and
"prestidigitation". For the second year in a
row, the final twenty-two rounds became a battle of wits between two outstanding eighth
grade students -Sarah Davenport and Gabriel
Yoder.
Ultimately, the winner, Sarah Davenport,
was revealed after correctly spelling the word
"Huguenot". Sarah will go on to the Berks
County Spelling Bee on March 13th, to be held
at the Miller Performing Arts Center.
Congratulations to Sarah and to all the
participants in this year's Spelling Bee!
Samuel Ruemmler
has
been notified by the National
Geographic Society that he is
one of the semifinalists eligible
to compete in the 2017 PA National Geographic State Bee.
The contest will be held at
State Museum of PA in Harrisburg on Friday, March 31, 2017.
This is the second level of the
National Geographic Bee
competition, which is now in its
29th year. School Bees were
held in schools with 4th -8th
grade students throughout the
state to determine each school
champion. School champions
then took a qualifying test,
which they submitted to the
National Geographic Society.
The National Geographic Society has invited up to 100 of the
top-scoring students in each of
the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Department of Defense
Dependents Schools and U.S.
territories to compete in the
State Bees.
Best of luck to Sam in this
competition!
Mrs. Linderman's 5th grade Language Arts classes are learning about prepositions, with help from the
song "Preposition" by the Bazillions (featuring Cole
Pennypacker). Hear the song at:

Is it spaghetti? Is it ice cream? It’s both—it’s
Spaghetti Eis! German Club members recreated this remarkable German Eiscafe delicacy at their February meeting. Köstlich!
The last student council sponsored dance is coming up this month! It is the SUPER
dance on March 31. This event begins at dismissal, 3:15 pm, and runs by grade specific
time intervals. Sixth grade may stay until 6:30 pm, Seventh until 7:30 pm and Eighth stays until the end - 8:30 pm!! The cost for this dance is $10.00 and includes a pizza dinner and activities as well as music and dancing. Part of money will go to a local charity which has not been
determined yet.
This is a great opportunity for students to have fun, socialize and dance the night away! See
you there!
