In many significant ways, belief systems have impacted the lives of people around the world. One exa
mple of a belief system is Confucianism. Confucianism originated during the Zhou dynasty in China by
a man called Confucius. The teachings of Confucius encouraged people to follow a code of moral cond
uct and have high respect for elders and authority. It also emphasized that the group is more import
ant then individual welfare. These teachings by Confucius affected its followers by giving them peac
e and harmony, happiness. Since there was a great emphasis on education from Confucius's teachings,
it let the government run more efficiently, being smarter and more respected. There are many main be
liefs in which guide people on how to act in society, all directions clear and acceptable. To Confuc
ianism, there are five key relationships. Those five key relationships are, subject must give respec
t to ruler, son to father, wife to husband, younger brother to older brother, except friend to frien
d where there is an equal amount of respect shown to each other called the golden rule. Respect show
n to people greatly enhances peace because people would now consider age and sex before getting into
any fights. To Confucius respect is very important, but those with authority power are to be showed
more respect then any others, this affect the power of the government. Those who are older are to b
e shown respect, called filial piety, or respect for one's elders. In Confucianism, the father is he
ad of the family, which is also known as a patriarchal society or male dominant. In Confucianism, fa
mily is the most important aspect of society. Family teaches correct human behavior and loyalty. It
also stresses society rather then the individual, or social conformity. In other words, the needs of
the group is more important then the needs of just one person. He stressed loyalty, courtesy, hard
work, and service to benefit society. He also believed a strong government would lead to a strong so
ciety. Confucius greatly emphasized the need for education. In education Confucius upheld the theory
, remarkable for the feudal period in which he lived, that "in education, there is no class distinct
ion." In many ways these beliefs had impacted the development of China, as well as its people. Peopl
e benefited because this philosophy brought about peace and harmony, respecting other people would r
educe the hatred and crimes. Everyone must work for the good of society, not for themselves, this ca
uses one to help out in society, to not be selfish and have high respect for authority (government f
igures). Chinese government had been greatly effected by people in the society being obedient and re
spectful, things can get done quicker and easier. There will be no riots, and no acts of selfishness
from the government either. According to the teachings of Confucius, the key to the successful orga
nization of society is that individuals should know and do what is expected of them. Also the teachi
ngs encouraged people to follow a code of moral conduct, which brought about peace, harmony, and hap
piness. The philosophy of Confucianism is a very effective way of running society. The society itsel
f was very orderly and peaceful; the people were highly educated also. Confucius greatly emphasized
the need for respect, and on education to help benefit the government that would overall benefit soc
iety itself. With a strong society, people will be enjoying a peaceful era, with no riots and corrup
tions. Due to the main beliefs of society, this philosophy or way of life, had endured a very long t
