In Mrs. Brooke Allen-Roberts’ classes:
The freshmen classes have just finished a unit to review the 6 Traits of Writing. In these pictures, students were working to
reconstruct an essay that had been cut into pieces. Once the essay was back in one piece, they had to write an intro and
conclusion paragraph to practice the strategies we've been using in class.

English 11 students listened to a short audio clip that introduced us to Puritan times to prepare for our upcoming reading of
'The Crucible." After listening to the clip, they worked in groups to create graffiti walls to represent the concepts, imagery, and
message from the speaker.
Mrs. Hunter’s middle school and high school health and PE classes have had a busy fall semester!

Mrs. Stoner who teaches middle and high school Family and Consumer
Sciences reports the following:
Andy Vasquez who is the owner of JNJ Organics donated tomatoes,
peppers and onions for the Foods and Nutrition salsa lab this past
month. It was really great because it helped focus the kids on buying
local. JNJ Organics has a booth at the Valparaiso Farmers Market on
Tuesday and Saturday mornings. Andy is a Morgan Township
resident. We also had a donation of zucchini for our muffin lab from Mr.
and Mrs. Ehrstein. We were able to shred enough zucchini for lab and
some to put in the freezer for a later lab. Special thanks go out to both of
these Morgan Township supporters!
Also, the Halloween Howl/German Club Octoberfest Dinner is on October
30. The Howl will be from 6:00-7:30. The German Club will be having a
fundraiser dinner at the same time. The German Club meal is by presale
only. We are hoping to have some parents bring kids for the Howl and
stay for a nice meal. The important thing to note is that tickets for the
dinner must be purchased in advance.

News from the Nurse
Mrs. Fleming is asking for donations for snack foods in her office. Many
days students come down with an upset stomach or low blood sugar and
her supply has dwindled quickly. She is asking if some parents could
please consider donating the following: juice boxes, and/or individually
packed items such as Cheeze-its, pretzels, fruit snacks, etc. This would be
greatly appreciated by our nurse, as well as the students who are having a rough day!

Student Council
The High School Student Council is excited to start another busy year of activities for the school and
community. This year’s officers are President: Sarah Opperman, Vice-President: Hannah Swivel, Secretary:
Tyler Bush, Treasurer: Kia Holder, and Historians: Anne Good and Abby Spihlman. Our officers began their
school year at the Indiana Association of Student Councils High School Regional Division Workshop at
Valparaiso University where they networked with other student councils from the northern part of Indiana and
learned team building skills.
On September 12th over 20 of our student council members volunteered at the Popcorn Fest selling tickets
for the inflatable rides. Although the weather kept everyone guessing, they had tons of fun themselves!!!
A group of our StuCo members also volunteered at Opportunity Enterprises on September 19th
where they helped pack 45,000 bags for the Chicago Marathon.

The middle school and high school student councils work together in the month of October to celebrate
Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Many activities are planned for this time. Our students wrapped the
trees with pink ribbons and kicked off the month with a PINK OUT DAY at school. Students wearing the
most pink won prizes. Our winners in the high school were Anna Pressel, Madison Hanna, Alannah
Hodges, TJ Kobitz and Cody Maxwell. Our middle school winners were Katie Chapman, Emily Rastovski,
Sarah Janney, and Jolie Hunsley. Our student council members will be sitting at lunch accepting donations
to the American Cancer Society where students will also be given the opportunity to pledge for someone
who they know has battled the terrible disease. Names of those we honor will be posted on the wall all
month in the shape of the word HOPE. Student Council is also partnering with the Girls Volleyball Team on
Tuesday, October 6th for a PINK OUT GAME where fans and students can dress in pink and donations will
be taken throughout the evening for this cause. A group of student council members will also be walking on
October 18th in downtown Valpo at the Making Strides Against Cancer walk starting at 1 PM. Please join us
for this and all events mentioned!
Please come out and support the HS Student Council by eating at the Taco Bell near
Walmart on Monday, October 19th…
A portion of all sales will go back to the Student Council to help us fund the many activities we have planned
for the upcoming months: State Convention and our Veterans Day Program in November, as well as our
Homecoming activities in December.
