Create your own New Deal Program

Create your own New Deal Program
Due: Tuesday 2/22
70 points
Description: You will work in groups of 2-3 to create an original New Deal program.
You will design a program that addresses one of the problems facing the nation during
the Great Depression. You may borrow ideas from actual New Deal programs but your
final result must be an original creation.
You (the brain trust) will then present your program to FDR (Ms. McGrory) in the form
of a flyer/poster/brochure/podcast/or some other creative wonderful idea approved
by Ms. McGrory. You must also hand in a four paragraph, detailed description of your
program.
First things first: Come up with your program
1. Pick a problem to address (unemployment, loans, banking system, food
relief…)
2. Create a name for your program
3. How will your program address the problem?
i. Who will you help and how will you help them?
ii. Will your program be long lasting (social security) or
temporary (CCC)?
iii. How will you evaluate your program?
On to the final product: You must have the following items completed by the
beginning of class Thursday 2/18
1. A four paragraph , typed description of your program
1st paragraph: What problem are you addressing?
o Include relevant statistics and information about the
problem itself.
 Make sure to cite where you got this information
from on your work cited page.
o Why do you think this is something that should be
addressed?
2nd Paragraph: Exactly who is your program going to help?
o Are you focusing on a specific age group or gender?
Why? Include specific information about
how this population is affected by the
problem.
 What area of the country will your program aid the
most?
Why? Include specific information about
how this region is affected by the problem.
3rd Paragraph: Exactly what is program going to do?
o Include specifics!
 Example: If you are giving money to families to
help them buy food you want to include how much
each family receives and what you are basing this
amount on.
4th paragraph: Will your program be temporary or long lasting?
How will you know if your program is achieving its goal?
o If it is temporary, how will you know when to end it? What
goals do you need to achieve before the program is
terminated? How will you know those goals are met?
o If it is permanent, how will you know that your goals are
being achieved? Who is in charge of altering those goals as
time progresses?
Works cited page: List all sources alphabetically.
o Types of sources allowed
 Databases approved by the media center
 One free website (No Wikipedia)
 E-books or good old fashioned paper books (yes
kids they still exist)
2. A creative way to present your program and “sell” it to FDR (that’s me) and my group
of close advisors (the rest of the class).
Your presentation must include:
Information from your typed description, but you may not read your description
word for word. That is BORING, and we don’t want you to bore us!
Your presentation should be 3 to 5 minutes.
You should dress appropriately; you are going to be meeting with the President.
