Decide the Digits - 2-digit

Decide the Digits (Grade 1)
Object: To build the greatest possible number
Materials:
• 2 Digit Card Decks (see last page)
• 2, 2-Digit Place Value Boards
• 2 Recording Sheets
Directions:
1. Give each player a digit deck and place value board.
2. Have each player shuffle their cards and place them face down in a pile.
3. Decide who goes first.
4. The first player takes one card from the top of their deck and places it in any open spot on
his/her place value board. For example, a 4 represents 4 ones or 4 tens, depending on
where you place it. Once a digit is placed, IT CAN'T BE MOVED!
5. The next player takes his/her turn.
6. Play goes back and forth until each player has formed a two-digit number.
7. Fill out the recording sheet for the round. The player who has formed the greatest number
earns a point for that round.
8. Digit cards are removed from the place value board, the deck is reshuffled, and play
continues in the same way. The winner is the player with the most points at the end of the
game.
