How to Train Your Dragon
Review and drawing by Karley E., age 7
Last week I watched “How to Train Your
Dragon.” The main characters are Hiccup,
Hiccup’s Dad, Astrid and Toothless. This story takes place in a Viking land where adult
Vikings try to kill dragons. This may have
taken place thousands of years ago.
Hiccup shot a dragon he named Toothless.
He found the dragon in a valley. Then amazingly Hiccup trained him and made attachments for his tail so he could ride Toothless.
He then used the training in his dragon
fighting class. He tried to teach others that the
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince dragons weren't really enemies like they had
drawing and review by Maggie G., age thought. They could train dragons and all get
along. This movie is about family.

Hi, it’s me Maggie and I’m here to tell
you about “Harry Potter and the Half
Blood Prince.” It is a one hundred percent good book.
Harry Potter is in his sixth year at
Hogwarts Academy. Everything is perfectly normal, except Dumbledore, the
headmaster of Hogwarts, wants to have
private lessons with Harry. Harry is not
worried, but hang on one sec, because
there is such a thing as pensive. A pensive shows memories of the past. When
you want to insert a memory, you take
the tip of your wand and pull one of your
hairs out and put it in. Dumbledore has a
pensive. In these lessons, Dumbledore
teaches Harry about Voldemort’s past. In
one memory, Harry finds out that Voldemort made seven Horcruxes. A Horcrux
is a piece of soul trapped in an object.
Harry destroyed one, and Dumbledore
destroyed one, only five to go. Will
Harry drop out of Hogwarts to find the
other horcruxes? Read the book to find
out.!
My favorite part of the movie was when
Astrid kissed Hiccup. I think this movie
should be for ages 5 and up. I really like this
movie and I recommend that others watch it
as well.

Thomas Alva Edison
by Emma D., age 10
Thomas Alva Edison was born on February 11, 1847 in Milan Ohio. He had scarlet fever and was
pulled on to a train by his ears and that made him half deaf. He never went to college (he asked a lot
of questions, which might have made him so smart.)
Thomas invented the light bulb, phonograph, video camera, a vote recorder that wasn’t used and a
qcuadruplex which is a telegraph that can send or receive four messages at one time. He got married
twice and had six children. Tom died September 18, 1931, when he was eighty four years old. If he
was alive now he would be 163 years old! One of his famous quotes was “A good idea is never lost!”

The Right Choice

One Valentine’s Day party, there was one boy named Tim who didn’t care about the party or anybody else
but himself. He wouldn’t share anything with anyone except a girl named Samantha. People say that Tim likes
Samantha, but other people say that Samantha likes Ben, who is taller than Tim.
Miss Chessie said it was time to pass out the valentines. Tim threw all of his away except one; it was Samantha’s. Then Miss Chessie asked Tim, “Why do you only have one valentine?” Tim just lied, “Umm, I only had
time to make one.”
“It’s art time!” Miss Chessie said, “as soon as we are done passing out are treats.”
Then Tim quickly gave his card to Samantha. Then Ben was ready to give his card to Samantha. Then Tim
yelled, “Get out of my way!” Then Tim said to Samantha, “Will you marry me? Ben laughed. “Will you
marry me?” Ben asked.
Then Samantha made up her mind and picked. “I pick, Fred” For the rest of the day the boys cried.

My New Dog Lexi
by Riley S., age 9
Lexi was adopted from a shelter. She’s a mix of
Basket Hound and German Shepard. She’s only one
year old. She is a girl dog and the sweetest little dog
ever. She loves her toys but likes chewing up other
things. She loves my grandma. All she asks for is
love!
She loves going for walks and barking. She just
wants to be outside. She loves the dog Bogi the
Basset Hound. She loves being called Loo Loo. She
loves going on couches and getting attention. Lexi
is such a little lady!
Tom and Jerry
I colored Tom and Jerry playing yo- yos. As you can see
Tom is having a little trouble, Jerry on the other hand is
outstanding!

Introduction
Mm, what should I make today? So many stitches and so much work to do, too. Hello my name is
Elizabeth Griscom Ross Ashburn Claypole - Betsy for short. I love to sew clothes, blankets and curtains for
my family. Sewing is my life. I like to sew so much I made the first American flag.
Early Life
I was born January 1, 1752 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In my family I had five sisters and eight brothers. My dad was a carpenter and my mom was a homemaker. I went to Friends School. Not many girls went
to school. I learned to read, write, and do math. My most favorite thing in school was sewing time. Making
samplers helped me to be a better sewer. My dream when I was a child was to open an upholstery shop. I
wanted to be the best sewer ever.
Adult Life
When I left school I became an apprentice in John Webster’s upholstery shop.
I was married three times. My first husband was John Ross. He died while guarding gunpowder in the Revolutionary War. When John Ross was still alive I opened my own upholstery shop with him. It was my
dream and John Ross’s dream too. After John Ross died, George Washington asked me to make a flag for
America. George Washington wanted six pointed stars. I made five pointed stars. I also made the flag a rectangle instead of a square. The flag had thirteen stars, and stripes. The stars and stripes stand for the thirteen
colonies.
My second husband was Joseph Ashburn. He also died in the Revolutionary War. My third husband was
John Claypoole. During my marriages, I had seven daughters. I stopped sewing at the age of seventy five.
When my eyes got bad. I died on January 30, 1836. I was eighty four years old when I died.
Conclusion
Every night and day people wave small flags around my grave. I hope people will remember me because I
made the American Flag. I had many struggles in my life, but I loved sewing. It was very important to me. I
worked very hard. It helped me make the American flag.
