APPLY HERE. 54th Commission For Social Development (CSocD) February 3-12, 2016 | UN Headquarters, NY The Commission for Social Development (CSocD) is the key United Nations body in charge of the follow up and implementation of the Copenhagen Declaration and Programme of Action. This year, we are preparing a delegation to partake in the 54th session of CSocD under the priority theme “Rethinking and strengthening social development in the contemporary world”. APPLICATION ENDS: Jan 10! 10th Session of Committee on Enforced Disappearances March 7-18, 2016| UN Geneva At its forthcoming 10th session in March 2016, the Committee on Enforced Disappearances will examine efforts of the following countries to implement the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance: Burkina Faso, Kazakhstan, Tunisia. United Nations Day October 22, 2016 | San Diego United Nations Day - UN Day - highlights, celebrates and reflects on the work of the UN and its family of specialized agencies. In 2016 our Chapter is celebrating its 70th anniversary as the local ambassador to/for the UN. We will celebrate this incredible milestone with high-level guests from the City of San Diego, the United Nations, Rotary International and other community partners. As every year, we will be honoring selected community members and organizations with the Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award and Global Citizen Award. MAJOR EVENTS 2016 2nd Session on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) November 2016 | San Diego This gathering in San Diego offers a platform for local civic society, private sector, academia and activists to review the global adoption of the SDGs in Sept 2015 at the UN by all 193 nations. As the SDGs will enter into national and local legal frameworks, we will explore the U.S. National Action Plan for this legal framework while learning how to effectively approach City officials and Representatives to Congress to ensure transparency and accountability in the local implementation of the SDGs in its fifteen-year process. Human Rights Day December 10, 2016 | San Diego Human Rights Day marks the anniversary of the adoption by the General Assembly of the landmark Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This year’s observance also marks 22 years since a bold step forward in the struggle to make rights a reality for all: the adoption by the World Conference on Human Rights of the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action.
