•
•
a variety of labeled and priced items— soup
25¢
Ziploc bags containing a variety of coins worth 50 cents (1 for each
child)
Class Store Receipts, duplicated and cut along the lines (p.38)
pencils
Canadian Coins Reference Sheet (p.45)
Instructions for the Station Leader:
1. Set up a table or an area of the classroom for the “Class Grocery
Store” with labeled and priced items.
2. Referring to the Canadian Coins Reference Sheet and using the
actual coins, review the names and values of the coins the
students will be using.
3. Show the students how to fill out a Class Store Receipt. Be sure
they put their names on their receipts.
4. Give each student a Ziploc bag with 50 cents worth of coins in it.
If the students are older, you could give them more money.
5. The students shop at the “Class Grocery Store” and can choose 3
to 5 items to purchase as long as they don’t spend more than 50
cents.
6. After shopping, they fill out a Class Store Receipt and take it to
the “cashier”-- the station leader. The cashier takes the money and
checks to make sure the receipt has been added correctly. The
students may need some help adding their coins. If there is time,
they could shop again.
7. Ask the students to put their Class Store Receipts into their money
folders.
8. Collect the Ziploc bags and refill them with 50 cents worth of
coins. Put the other supplies away in preparation for the next
session.
