Creating Your Own Symbol
Write down something in your world that bothers you, particularly something that you find unjust.
Example: It bothers me when people feel they have to hide who they really are to avoid being made fun
of.
What is an object you could use to represent, or symbolize, this injustice? (Use Atticus’s saying as a
model: “It’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.”)
Example: I could use a chameleon because chameleons change color to fit their surroundings.
Now, complete the sentence frame to create your own saying:
Example: “It’s a sin to turn someone into a chameleon.”
In the space below, provide an illustration of your symbol.
