The Awards Committee presented 62 Chapter Achievement Awards: 16 Honorable Mentions, 23 Distinctive Certificates, 15 Excellent Certificates, and 8 Superior Certificates. The five top chapters in number of points were awarded the Presidential Award. Read more about all the awards in the upcoming Eta State News. The Membership Committee is in charge of the Ceremony of Remembrance and asks all chapters to please remember to submit your Form 6 to the Membership Chair as soon as you are aware of the death of a member. As the first phase of honoring our member, her name is included in the newsletter in the White Rose report section. That report is established from the Form 6 submissions. A tribute is included in the Ceremony of Remembrance, the second phase of honoring her. Thank you for your assistance in keeping our membership rolls accurate by submitting the forms in a timely manner to ensure our sisters are honored for their service in both the newsletter and at the Ceremony of Remembrance. Educational Foundation Announces Endowment at the Convention The NC DKG Educational Foundation, in its second annual meeting, announced a Limited Endowment Project underway with Alpha Nu Chapter. Honoring Burke County educators Betsy and Fred Cranford (Betsy was Alpha Nu treasurer for 20 years!), the endowment will fund projects for educators in Burke and Caldwell counties. Grant recipients for 2017 told of the success of their projects during the annual meeting also. Their enthusiasm for the projects and professional development that the Foundation made possible was contagious! The Foundation thanks everyone for purchasing raffle tickets and shirts during the convention. The successful nature of both sales is an indication of the support that members of Eta State have shown...clearly wanting the Foundation to succeed and to be a part to nurture and continue growth. Such promise is exciting! The Foundation continues to seek interested members for committee and Board work. If interested, contact Chair Dr. Judith Carlson at judithb125@ gmail.com. The Foundation is especially interested in someone to help write grants. Visit the website at http://www.ncdkgef.org/. Statement of Neutrality Issued by DKG International In response to recent events in politics, DKG International wants to share the Statement of Neutrality. Key points in the statement relate to the difference between speaking as an individual and “speaking” on behalf of our international, nonprofit organization. Our DKG Constitution outlines in more detail the need for a thorough understanding of issues involved and use of those issues instead of candidates or political parties. Read the entire Statement of Neutrality on our Eta State NC website at http://www.ncdkg.org/uploads/ 8/0/8/5/80859646/dkg_neutrality_statement.pdf. Hints to Editors: Please stress this within your chapter by including reference to the Statement of Neutrality in your next newsletter. Presidents Take Note: Please be sure your members without internet access have seen or heard the Statement. Presidents Take Note of These Items of Interest From Karen Buhrman, Eta State NC World Fellowship Representative: I was so glad to see so many of you at the state convention. Last Chance for Leadership Seminar There are only a couple spaces left in the Leadership Seminar this summer. If your chapter wishes to send someone, registration needs to be submitted by May 23. The registration form may be found at http:// www.ncdkg.org/leadership-development-committee.html. Lobbying Day is May 31; Large Attendance is Urged By: Susan Phipps, Chair, ELP Committee Public education in North Carolina needs as many supporters as possible during this legislative session. There are powerful efforts to cut education funding in order to give vouchers for private school tuition and to give tax cuts to high income North Carolinians. The Educational Law & Policy Committee encourages all chapter presidents to alert members that on Wednesday, May 31, Delta Kappa Gamma sisters will gather at the North Carolina Legislative building in Raleigh at 9:00 a.m. at the foot of the main staircase just inside the front door. All participating members are urged to make appointments with their House and Senate representatives before going to Raleigh. The goal for the day is to familiarize Legislators with Delta Kappa Gamma and its legislative priorities and to explain to them why greater funding for education is both necessary and wise. Copies of DKG’s White Paper will be available that day for distribution to all legislators. There will also be information and statistics about our priorities available to participating sisters. Any member planning to go to Raleigh who would like to receive the White Paper and the information sheets before May 31 can email Susan Phipps at [email protected] to request the materials. See you there! Eta State NC President Sheila Groves @SheilaVGroves1 https://www.facebook.com/ groups/EtaState/ [email protected] Something to think about...
