EUROPEAN TRADING CARD ASSIGNMENT (Pg. 42-57)
Directions: European explorers were treated like celebrities in their home countries for
their discoveries—much like athletes in America today. To better understand these
historical celebrities, you will create a trading card to promote the glories of these
explorers.
Step 1: Read about the explorers you have been given – use your textbook’s index to locate them. Put the
name of each explorer on the front of an index card.
Step 2: Create an image for the front of your trading card. Pick something that relates to your explorer.
(Don’t just draw a picture of their country’s flag) WRITE NAME ON FRONT OF CARD!!!
Step 3: Add some important stats to the BACK of your trading card about your explorer.
- Things to include for each of your explorers
1. Year of Exploration – when did they travel?
2. Country Represented – which country did they travel for to the New World?
3. Reason for Exploration – what were they looking for?
4. Places Explored – what places did they travel to? List them.
5. New Discoveries – what discovery did they make that made them famous?
Step 4: Share your cards with your classmates in class to help each other learn more about these
celebrities.
