2016 Term 4 Week 4

Tikorangi School News 2016
Friday 4th November
Good afternoon everyone. Its with sadness that we
farewell Joanne Thomas at the end of week 6. She
has been teaching in Kereru Class this year.
Joanne’s last day at Tikorangi School is on Friday 18th November. She is
heading overseas to take up a nanny/ teaching job in Russia. We have
really enjoyed having Joanne on staff and she will be missed by all the
students and staff. Shirlene Paterson will be teaching in Kereru for the
last 4 weeks of term. She comes to us from teaching in a variety of local
schools such as Bell Block and Waitara East. Last year Shirlene was also a
Maths facilitator for Cognition Education. Shirlene will be beginning on
the 21st of November.
Fire Safety
This term we have been learning about fire safety. Classrooms have been
doing the Firewise programme and our Board Member Nigel Eason came
to talk to the school
about fire. Teachers
were taught how to
use fire
extinguishers to put
out a fire. Students
learnt about the fire
triangle and what to
do in an emergency.

Intermediate.
ERO Powhiri
Next week we have a visit from the Education Review Office. They will be
in school from Monday to Wednesday. We are welcoming them to the

along.
Puanga 2017
Congratulations
to the students
who participated
at the 2016
Puanga festival in
Waitara last week.
The two groups
did a magnificent job representing our school. There is a video on our
school website in the post called ‘Puanga 2016’.
Many thanks to Whaea Lisa, Jasmine Kelly and Kathy Carr. These three
staff members worked tirelessly to get the groups organised before the
event. Thanks our tutor Matua Clive and to the parents who came to
support the group at school and at the hall.

Building Changes at Tikorangi School
Over the next few months you will see many changes happening with
the school site. There will be a new Modcom building coming on site,
Home and School container moving, shipping containers coming and
other small alterations. This is preparation for the building works
happening on the main block and GP room next year. 2017 will be a year
of massive change. While our school is being repaired and modified
classes will need to be adaptable. It will be a little chaotic for students,
parents and staff for at least 3 terms. We will keep you informed with
these changes as we begin to get start times and class configurations
finalised.
