Tikorangi School News 2016 Friday 4th November Good afternoon everyone. Its with sadness that we farewell Joanne Thomas at the end of week 6. She has been teaching in Kereru Class this year. Joanne’s last day at Tikorangi School is on Friday 18th November. She is heading overseas to take up a nanny/ teaching job in Russia. We have really enjoyed having Joanne on staff and she will be missed by all the students and staff. Shirlene Paterson will be teaching in Kereru for the last 4 weeks of term. She comes to us from teaching in a variety of local schools such as Bell Block and Waitara East. Last year Shirlene was also a Maths facilitator for Cognition Education. Shirlene will be beginning on the 21st of November. Fire Safety This term we have been learning about fire safety. Classrooms have been doing the Firewise programme and our Board Member Nigel Eason came to talk to the school about fire. Teachers were taught how to use fire extinguishers to put out a fire. Students learnt about the fire triangle and what to do in an emergency. Mrs Olson putting out a fire using the PASS method- Pull the pin, Aim, Squeeze and Sweep Cluster Athletics Cluster Athletics is coming up on the 16th November. This year we have been forced to change the venue as the TET Stadium is unavailable, due to building works. The year 0-2 students will be hosting our cluster schools at Tikorangi. The year 3-6 students will be at Manukorihi Intermediate. ERO Powhiri Next week we have a visit from the Education Review Office. They will be in school from Monday to Wednesday. We are welcoming them to the school with a powhiri at around 10.00am. You are most welcome to come along. Puanga 2017 Congratulations to the students who participated at the 2016 Puanga festival in Waitara last week. The two groups did a magnificent job representing our school. There is a video on our school website in the post called ‘Puanga 2016’. Many thanks to Whaea Lisa, Jasmine Kelly and Kathy Carr. These three staff members worked tirelessly to get the groups organised before the event. Thanks our tutor Matua Clive and to the parents who came to support the group at school and at the hall. Waitara Athletics Waitara athletics begins on Monday 7th November at 5.30pm-6.30pm at Clifton Park in Waitara. Check out their facebook page for more information. North Taranaki Touch Congratulations to Kahsia and Maia who have been selected in the North Taranaki Touch teams. Kahsia is in the under 10 mixed team and Maia is in the under 12 girls team. Good luck to all of our touch players for the rest of the season. School Shirts and Stationery 2017 Students who will be year 4 next year will be required to purchase a school shirt. These will be available in the school office. Our stationery will no longer be sold through the office from 2017. All class stationery lists are being updated and a link to an online store will be provided. You have the choice of either purchasing online or organising the stationery yourself. Sports Uniforms and School Jackets We are missing some sports uniforms and School Jackets. If you have any of these at home please return to the office as soon as possible. 150th Tikorangi School Jubilee 2017 Next year we are celebrating our 150th Jubilee. The celebrations will be held on friday 21st October to Sunday 23rd October 2017. There is a Facebook page called ‘Tikorangi 150th School Jubilee’ and there is a link on our school website. If you have family and friends who attended Tikorangi School please ask them to check out the information and register their interest in the event. More details will be coming out soon. Home and School AGM The Home and School AGM will be held on the 9th December at 3.00pm. New members are welcome to come and all positions are open for nominations. We need new members to help us to continue to raise money for our children and school. Calendar Art from Piwakawaka class. Building Changes at Tikorangi School Over the next few months you will see many changes happening with the school site. There will be a new Modcom building coming on site, Home and School container moving, shipping containers coming and other small alterations. This is preparation for the building works happening on the main block and GP room next year. 2017 will be a year of massive change. While our school is being repaired and modified classes will need to be adaptable. It will be a little chaotic for students, parents and staff for at least 3 terms. We will keep you informed with these changes as we begin to get start times and class configurations finalised. Year 6 Raffle There is a raffle at the school office for the year 6 camp fundraising. The prize is $50, a $25 Challenge gift voucher and a $25 Four Square voucher. $2 per ticket and limited to 100 tickets. Senior Kapahaka at Puanga. Due to children who suffer from severe allergic reactions please no nuts or peanut butter in your children’s lunch boxes. ● Brain Food - the break at 10:00am, is water and fruit snack break for children, to extend their concentration span in the morning. The Tikorangi Home and School volunteers are providing BRAIN FOOD for the whole school until further notice. This is the: Home and School Fruit For Kids programme. So parents, you do not have to provide BRAIN FOOD for your children, as the Home and School have got it covered. ● School Newsletters. Three different newsletters will be rotated on a three week cycle. Week 1 - full school newsletter. Week 2 - a basic bulletin notice about important dates and upcoming events. Week 3 - a class newsletter from your child’s teacher. Expect a paper newsletter EVERY FRIDAY so please check school bags. ● Assemblies will be 9-9:45am on a Friday morning. ● School begins at 8.50am. Please make sure your child is at school on time and the office is notified why your child is absent. It is our legal responsibility to know where students are if they are absent. ● Prompt Pick Up - Parents, please be prompt to pick up your children after school. We expect all children, except for the country bus kids, to have left the school grounds by 3:10pm. ● Next week the Junior School will be leading the Whole School assembly on friday morning. You are welcome to come and share it with us. Does anyone have or know of a caravan or campervan that our office administrator Mrs Wood could hire at the end of the month please.
