Complete assignment Materials Needed Daniel Finds a Poem by Micha Archer One book template Crayons or markers Paper bags (Activity 1) Large cardboard box (Activity 1) Easel paper, construction paper, or large post-its (Activity 2) Activity 1 Students use alliteration to introduce puppets to the class. 1. Give each child a paper bag. Help them print their name and draw their picture on it. 2. Talk about descriptive words that can be paired with names to create alliterations, such as “athletic Alice” or “helpful Harry.” 3. Instruct each child to bring their puppet to the stage (large cardboard box) and introduce themselves using an alliteration like, “Hi, I‟m strong Sarah.” 4. Extend their alliteration with a sentence that children finish, such as, “Strong Sarah sat on a _____,” with children adding “stool.” Activity 2 Students identify examples of onomatopoeia within the book, Daniel Finds a Poem. 1. Ask children to go back through Daniel Finds a Poem and pick out words that say the sound they are describing (like „crunch‟ in the phrase 'crisp leaves crunch‟). 2. Write the words on a large piece of construction paper, easel paper, or post-it note and hang in classroom. Assignment 1. Review definition (alliteration and/or onomatopoeia). 2. Ask students how a day at school looks/sounds/smells/feels. Record responses. 3. Choose best response or combine responses together into one line. 4.
