Pirate Periodical February, 2017 RAMPELLO DOWNTOWN PARTNERSHIP K-8 MAGNET SCHOOL Audience with the Captain 3rd Quarter is in full swing, and we have some very exciting ideas cooking up this month. February is when we celebrate Black History Month. We will host two morning performances in honor of Black History month, by our chorus and Pirate chimers ensembles. We are so proud that here at Rampello, we promote diversity every single day. Our annual Jump Rope for Heart event will be held February 8th and 9th. Please contact elementary PE teacher, Dr. Bie for more information on how you can contribute. Last year we exceeded our $5,000 goal, and we are well on our way this year! The guidance department is also focusing on growth mindset this month, the idea that your brains grows with each challenge or obstacle you face. If you believe, you can achieve. If you wish to put money into your child’s lunch account, you must sign in with SafeNet and go to the cafeteria. ALL visitors must sign in with a state issued ID or Driver’s license at the Student Affairs Office. The sign-in computer is only set up to scan a Driver's License or Florida ID card. All lunch boxes dropped off after the start of school will be put on a table in the cafeteria during lunch time. Students may retrieve them at that time. Please note: If you don’t have either form of identification, it is mandatory that you will need to be cleared by Officer Buchanan. This could result in a delay in picking up your child. If you are here to volunteer or chaperone, you must have a completed online volunteer application. All other items dropped off throughout the school day will be placed in the homeroom teacher’s mailbox. Students WILL NOT be allowed to leave class to get dropped off items, nor will teachers be called. We will no longer call classrooms and interrupt instructional time. You may find a whole TREASURE BOX of new fun, Matey! Aaaarrrggghhhh you ready to fall in love?! Juli Baker, M. Ed. Jump Rope For Heart 2017 On Feb. 8th and 9th Rampello Downtown Partnership School will hold its annual Jump Rope For Heart event. These events are held at schools nationwide and not only help students learn about the benefits of regular physical activity and heart health, but also raise funds to support vital research and education initiatives that save lives in our community. At Rampello, we hold our event during our regularly scheduled Physical Education classes. Collection envelopes are being sent home with students this week. If your child did not receive one, please contact Ms. Bie. Congenital heart defects are the most common cause of infant death from birth defects. Many children are alive today because of treatments not available even 10 years ago and each of us knows someone who has suffered from heart disease, diabetes, or stroke - it can affect anyone at any age. Funded research and advancements have changed and saved their lives! The money we raise not only benefits the American Heart Association but also makes us eligible to receive certificates for P.E. equipment. The students will be jumping and learning to become more heart healthy during their P.E. classes. Childhood obesity is an epidemic and the number of overweight kids and adolescents is growing at a rapid pace. Jump Rope For Heart is an educational and fun way to teach the students to take steps toward living a heart healthy life and perhaps prolonging and saving their own lives in the future. The collection envelope that each student receives should be turned in on or before Feb. 17 th. Students who raise $5 or more will receive thank you gifts like jump ropes, t-shirts, and keychains Thank you in advance for all your hard work and support of this great cause. Your child was given a paper copy for your convenience as well as a printed access code should you prefer to fill out the survey online. This year, we are inviting all parents of students K-12 to participate. The survey is completely anonymous and will only take about 10 minutes to complete. Your answers are very important and helpful to us and the entire district as we strive to ever improve the support we give our students. The information is also used in the development of our School Improvement Plan. We ask that you please complete the form either online or by the paper copy by Friday, March 3rd. Should you choose the paper copy, you can return the survey to the school directly in the envelope provided or via U.S. mail. Please help us gain valuable insight so that we are able to do all we can to make you proud to be the parent of a student at Rampello Downtown Partnership K-8. Attn: 8th Grade Invaders For questions regarding the survey contact : Assessment and Accountability Office 813-272-4341 [email protected] Miss the first magnet high school application period? The second application period will open April 4th–14th Punctual Pirates Tips and tricks to arrive on time at school everyday To access the application online: http://www.sdhc.k12.fl.us/doc/230/magnet-schoolseducation/about/magnet-about/ School opens at 7:00 a.m. and free breakfast is available to all of our students. Middle School starts at 7:40 a.m.; Elementary School students can be in their class as early as 7:45 a.m. When students are late to class, they have missed bell work and morning routines. Students who are chronically tardy (over 10% of the school year) in Kindergarten are more likely to perform lower academically. Students who are not punctual are learning poor time management skills that can impact them throughout their entire lives Excessive tardiness may result in a change of school placement for a magnet program.
