C ARBON D IOXIDE - O XYGEN C YCLE Plants and animals are linked for survival through the carbon dioxideoxygen cycle. P HOTOSYNTHESIS To undergo photosynthesis, plants need: sunlight water carbon dioxide P HOTOSYNTHESIS Plants make food and oxygen in the process of photosynthesis. Plants release the oxygen into the air. C ARBON DIOXIDE Carbon dioxide is found in the air. It gets there from: volcanoes erupting burning fossil fuels animals A NIMALS Animals inhale (breathe in) the Oxygen given off by plants. Animals go through the process of cellular respiration in which their cells use the Oxygen in the blood and dispose of the Carbon Dioxide. Animals then exhale the Carbon Dioxide as waste.
