ROAD PATROLLER FOR THIS
WEEK
NIKORANGI - FOR FILLING IN AT
SHORT NOTICE
This year ERO released a report on what needs to be in place for students to feel good about
being at school. It also highlights best practice for supporting students to be better
prepared for adolescence.
Most of this is already imbedded in what we do here at Flaxmere Primary School to enable our
students and staff to strive towards TOA. To KIA TOA—Be Your Best, KIA ORA—Be Well, KIA
AKO-Be A Learner.
Can your child say the following about themselves:
 I feel proud to be part of our school
 I like my school, my teachers and my friends
 I know when I am working well
 My teachers celebrate the things that I am good at
 I know if things are tough I have support to help me
 There are teachers at school that help me when I am sad or upset
 I make sensible decisions
 I am confident and organised
 My mana remains in tact at all times
 My teachers respect, accept and celebrate all things that make me, me.
 The adults at school do something when I tell them there is a problem
 I am part of a team or group that shares my interests
 There are opportunities to get help with my learning or extension to challenge myself.
I certainly hope all of our kids agree with these statements. A further summary of the report can be found at:
http://www.ero.govt.nz/National-Reports/Wellbeing-for-Children-s-Success-at-Primary-School-February-2015,
or a hard copy is available in the office.
A big thanks to staff, students and whanau that took part in the Learning Discussions this week. The dark cold
winter nights don’t make it pleasant but I hope the discussions and wonderful taonga files made this
worthwhile.
Have a safe and warm weekend, Robyn (Miss Isaacson) Principal
