Presenter(s): Johnnie Bass
Abstract: This session is developed by, and presenters invited by, Hearing, Balance, Tinnitus – Assessment and Intervention:
Pediatrics. Platinum-based chemotherapy and cranial radiation are effective treatment options commonly prescribed for a variety of

Presenter(s): Raymond Hull
Abstract: Aural rehabilitation is often described as an add-on to our audiology services. We may attempt to persuade patients to
participate, but not wanting to pay extra for another service, they frequently refuse. The premise is,what we call “aural
rehabilitation” should not be an “add-on”, but rather an integral part of audiology services.

inpatients whose hearing loss was recognized during the routine admission interview or during the nursing assessment.

Presenter(s): Megan Ryan, Alison Marinelli, Shannon Wannagot, Kathleen Cienkowski
Abstract: To investigate the relationship between device label and perceived hearing aid stigma, participants rated photographs of
identical devices, described as hearing aids or Bluetooth devices. Older adult participants perceived devices more negatively when
they were labeled hearing aids, with more visible devices providing significant labeling and hearing aid effects.

Abstract: This study examined the relation between listening comprehension in noise and working memory (WM) in 28 individuals
with hearing loss. Listening comprehension was measured using passages. Three tasks were used to obtain individuals’ WM. Results
do not support the explicit claims about limited capacity WM facilitating listening comprehension in noise.

Abstract: This study reports an untypical pediatric otosclerosis with early onset (5 years old) of unilateral conductive hearing loss,
which did not receive correct diagnose and appropriate treatment until age 17. Detailed case history and possible reasons of
misdiagnose was discussed, providing a good example for future clinical consideration.

Title: Prevalence of Misophonia Conditions in Clients/Patients Receiving Speech-Language & Hearing Services
Presenter(s): Suzanne Kimball, Morgan Farquharson
Abstract: The purpose of this project was to determine if Oklahoma licensed speech-language pathologists and audiologists have
worked with patients exhibiting symptoms of misophonia. Results indicated that speech-language pathologists made
recommendations inconsistent with current practice trends, even though the amount of clients/patients seen between professionals
was negligible.

Presenter(s): Emily Lund, W. Micheal Douglas
Abstract: This presentation will evaluate two studies that will report on (a) the relation between explicitness of instruction and
general vocabulary learning in children with hearing loss developing spoken language, and (b) the effectiveness of direct instruction
procedures for teaching early-developing concept words. Protocols for effective instruction practices will be shared.

Abstract: The goal of the study is to determine how sensitive listeners are to intonation in a musical context. Our hypothesis is that
individuals with musical experience will be more sensitive to pitch discrimination in a musical context than compared to people
without a musical background.

Title: Nonparent Perception of Infant Cry & Whine
Presenter(s): Hyunjoo Yoo, Gavin Bidelman
Abstract: This study fills a literature gap by investigating how well adult listeners differentiate infant cry from whine sounds amidst
various acoustic interferences (e.g., music, noise). We measured behavioral and physiological eye pupillometry responses. Results
suggested that human listeners are capable of categorizing cry and whine sounds regardless of interference.

Presenter(s): Charley Adams, Allen Montgomery
Abstract: Video recordings (CID sentences, two talkers) were presented without sound to typical observers for lipreading.
Intelligibility of four words that appeared in ten+ sentences was correlated with the overall intelligibility of the sentence (r > .70),
indicating a strong influence of sentence difficulty on individual sentence words.
