SR 528/BEACHLINE EXPRESSWAY WIDENING
Express Lanes: Interstate 4 to McCoy Road
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The western 8-mile segment of the SR 528/Beachline Expressway currently experiences periodic
congestion and is programmed for widening by the Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise. This widening is
being conducted under two separate construction projects:
99 FPID 406090-5: Widening between I-4 (MP 0) and Florida’s Turnpike (MP 4)
99 FPID 437156-1: Widening between Florida’s Turnpike (MP 4) and McCoy Road (MP 8)
The planned widening of the SR 528/Beachline Expressway between I-4 (MP 0) and the Florida’s
Turnpike (MP 4) will add two extra lanes in each direction, raising the total number of lanes from
four to eight. In addition, one additional lane will be added between the Florida’s Turnpike (MP 4)
and McCoy Road (MP 8), increasing the total number of lanes from six to eight. These capacity
improvements will accommodate future traffic growth.
The new capacity will be Express Lanes, which are an innovative, long term congestion management
tool being implemented by the Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise. Express Lanes allow drivers a choice
to choose the Express Lanes for more predictable travel times. Express Lanes also preserve corridor
mobility, improve safety and enhance local transit service along the corridor.
