March 2012
There are so many factors that can change the course of our day, month and
even life. Choices we make to do something or do nothing. A few months ago,
my letter spoke about depression and stresses that our children were going
through. My daughter penned the letter. Due to that letter, I was in contact
with several parents. One, a certified Health Coach, has offered to run a program for our students. The program is called “Think Smart, Eat Smarter”.
What we put into our bodies affects us in so many ways, for the positive and
negative. Essential vitamins and nutrients can do so much good, but the lack
of them can cause many problems; psychologically and physically. Eating the
right foods and making healthier choices can increase brain power, energy and
focus.
This morning as I opened my email, the first Yahoo article that hit the screen
was an article about a fourteen year old Oregon teenager that this past weekend died due to inhaling helium at a party. Drinking, pot smoking, and peer
pressure led this girl to make a poor choice; a choice that took her life and
changed that of her parents, family, and friends forever.
Our school community is not unlike those across our country. We are victim to
tragedies. It is imperative to give the students the power to control their bodies and what goes into it. It is also critical that the students be able to identify
signs that they need help and feel empowered to get the help that they need.
It is NEVER a tragedy to ask for help; tragedies occur most often when help is
not sought.
Please encourage your child to attend, “THINK SMART, EAT SMARTER” on Tuesday, March 6 from 6:00PM – 8:00PM in the Satellite Cafeteria. They will learn
to “Run Longer, Stay Thinner, Think Better, Play Harder”. They will have fun
preparing and tasting foods that will enable them to boost brain function and
improve their physical well being. The evening promises to be informative AND
a lot of fun- hope to see your child there!
Have a happy and safe start to spring!

Elizabeth Garrott - Artistic Director, John Wright - Vocal Director, Caitlin Cavanagh - Orchestra Conductor, Sue Wachter - Technical
Director, Dave Schein - Production Manager, and Jordan Seibert - Stage Manager Class of 2012, invite you and your family to the
spring musical!
The Team that brought you "Totally Over You", "Rent: School Edition", and "Big Love" now proudly presents a muscial comedy:
"URINETOWN" by Greg Kotis
Terrible title, we know, we know, but this Tony-award winning show is a GREAT musical satire.
We've set our show in a bone-dry Ocean City, Maryland, after a 20 year drought. The poor are desperate, the rich are planning an
escape to Brazil, and the law enforcement's singular, brutal punishment stretches to fit all crimes. To make matters worse, it costs
$6 a pop to use ONLY TOILET IN TOWN. Only lifeguard revolutionary, Bobby Strong, and a beautiful and... confused... graduate of
the Most Expensive University in the World, the affluent and...confused....Hope Cladwell can give the people what they want.
Well... Hope and Bobby can give them what they THINK they want.
For a little while.
The music and dancing are high energy, upbeat, and the lyrics are immensely clever!
Featuring professional choreography by returning guest artist Colleen Alford, and student choreography by Jae Clements, captain
of D-Rockas, along with dancers from the Dulaney Step Team, and Chris Phillips, Chloe Adler, Nicole Drinkwater, and others.
Featuring first-time performers: Freshman Brady Widener in the principal role of Cladwell, and a dynamic ensemble of featuring
the Dulaney stage debuts of: Amanda Olsen, Tommy Engel, Jae Gourdin, Alex Suk, Solon Miller, Josh Emerick, Destinee Cruthird,
Grace Landefeld, Christine King, and Julie Anderson
We are also proud to present our talented and dedicated returning performers in principal roles: Sam Sauter as Hope, Ellis Zapas as
Bobby, Naomi Sinn as Ms. Pennywise, Gabby Tyson as Little Sally, Brett Markievich as Officer Barrel, Sam Fishman Gabrielle Welsh
as the Father and Mother of the Revolution, and presenting Chloe Adler, the Dulaney Lions Marching Band drum major, in her
Dulaney Stage Debut as Officer Lockstock.
As always, Dulaney Theatre is thought-provoking, fast-paced, a tremendous physical and vocal challenge for our artists, and in service to our community.

scrimmages or games. It is very difficult for any player to be selected for a team if they are not present during the tryout period.
Most coaches will select their team after the first few days of tryouts. Please plan your summer vacation accordingly. Returning athletes are expected to attend the 1st day of practice. Teams will practice Monday through Friday, and most Saturdays.
