Lodge The Porcupine Hills
Seniors Foundation is a non-profit
organization providing housing for
seniors 65 years of age and older
who are functionally independent.
The Foundation operates forty
lodge units and eight 2-bedroom
supportive housing units.

THINGS TO DO AND SEE IN AND AROUND CLARESHOLM...
IN CLARESHOLM
• Claresholm Museum - This sandstone building was
moved from Calgary and was rebuilt in 1911. It is located
on main street and serves as the Visitor Information Centre.
On the site are Claresholm’s first schoolhouse, and a
unique pioneer cabin.
• Claresholm Indoor Pool - A great place to have fun with
the kids or relax in the hot tub! This 5-lane, 25 metre pool
has a graduated entry making it handicap accessible, a
Tarzan rope, and diving board. Located at the south
entrance of the Claresholm Care Centre. Call 625-2172
for the daily schedule.
• Claresholm Skating Rink - A bustling place in the winter,
this rink hosts hockey, figure skating and the local dance
group in the upstairs mezzanine. In the summer, it is the
location of the weekly Farmer’s Market. Stop by for a
visit ~ there’s always something going on.
• The Bridges at Claresholm Golf Course - This great
18-hole public golf course is challenging and inexpensive to
play, easily accessible from the highway, and a welcome
stop for golfing families. Call 625-3500 for tee times.
• Harvard Memorial - In 1940, as part of the British
Commonwealth Air Training Program, Claresholm was
home to the Number 15 Service Flight Training School,
training over 1800 pilots. The Harvard Memorial, located
at Centennial Park Campground, commemorates the
contributions of the pilots, mechanics, and aircrew who
trained in Claresholm, and later contributed to the allied
victories in Europe, the Pacific and the Korean War.

• Claresholm Agriplex - This facility brings thousands of
rodeo and horse enthusiasts to Claresholm every year. Call
625-2410 to find out what event is happening this weekend!
• Appaloosa Horse Club of Canada Museum - The
Appaloosa Museum for this Canadian Club is located in
Claresholm. This location is also a national registry. Stop in
for an informative visit.
• Seniors Drop In Centre - The Claresholm Seniors Drop In
Centre is a busy place all year round. Bingo, cards,
shuffleboard, and bocce are a few of the activities hosted
by this active group of seniors. Visitors always welcome.
• Claresholm Curling Rink - Four sheets of ice are kept
swept clean from November to March when the
Claresholm Curling Club is in full swing. Leagues include
mens, seniors, ladies, mixed and juniors. Call the rink at
625-3933 to get involved!
• Claresholm Public Library - A great resource stop for
anyone conducting local research, or grab a cozy chair to
sit and read a while. The library offers full Internet access
and a wide selection of books, videos and loans through
the Chinook Arch Regional Library System.
• Royal Canadian Legion Branch #41 - The Legion is a
great place to meet new friends, play a game of darts or
cards, or just relax for a while. Established in 1927, the
Legion has been a solid contributor to the community.
• Claresholm Baseball Complex - Built by volunteers in
conjunction with the Town of Claresholm, this facility was
completed in 2001. Host to many slowpitch and baseball
tournaments, the complex is located north of the
Claresholm Community Centre.
• Home of Louise Crummy McKinney - Louise was an
organizer and staunch supporter of the Women's Christian
Temperance Union. She was the first woman elected (1917)
to serve as a Member of any Legislative Assembly in the
Commonwealth in the first election in which women could
vote or run for office. She fought for and passed a new
Dower Act. She was a member of the Famous Five, who
in 1929 took their appeal to have women recognized as
"persons" to the Canadian Supreme Court and then to the
British Privy Council in London. In 1896, Louise married
James McKinney and had one child, Willard. In 1903, they
moved to Claresholm, Alberta. (www.famous5.org)
• Travel East to Vulcan to view the spaceship-shaped
Tourism and Trek Station, the area’s information booth.
From Vulcan, you can visit Lake McGregor, Little Bow
Park, and Little Bow Reservoir.
• Travel North to Nanton to view the wonderful Antique &
Art Walk, the Nanton Lancaster Air Museum, and
mysterious Magnetic Hill.
• Willow Creek Provincial Park is a great place for a picnic,
or a cool spot for the kids to have fun in the water. Head
west of Claresholm or Stavely, and follow the signs.
• Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump - This UNESCO World
Heritage Site is located just 20 mins South of Claresholm.
Plains-Indian historic interpretive centre with Native guides,
displays and artifacts. Theatre, Gift Shop, Cafeteria,
outdoor trails are open year round.
• The Fort Macleod Fort Museum - The NWMP Museum is
a full sized model of the original fort built here over one
hundred years ago. The buildings are home to pictures and
artifacts that portray the lives that NWMP members lived.
• Frank Slide Interpretive Centre - The Frank Slide
Interpretive Centre highlights the rich history of the
Crowsnest Pass, featuring the 1903 Frank Slide
(rockslide-avalanche), the Canadian Pacific Railway,
European settlement, early underground coal mining and
community life.
• Travel the Cowboy Trail - see the map to follow the trail
north to Longview or South to Lundbreck.
• Pincher Creek and Area Wind Turbines - Cowley Ridge
Windplant, the first commercial windplant in Canada, was
completed in two phases - phase 1 being commissioned in
1993, and phase 2 in August of 1994. Also see VisionQuest
turbines in the area.
• Waterton Lakes International Peace Park - Established
in 1895, Waterton is often called the park where the
mountains meet the prairie. Together with Glacier National
Park, Waterton became the world's first International Peace
Park in 1932, which were designated an UNESCO World
Heritage Site in 1995.
• Visit the BAR U Ranch National Historic Site, located
13 kilometers south of Longview on Highway 22.
• Visit the BIG ROCK, the world’s largest glacial erratic,
located 10 kilometers west of Okotoks on Highway 7, is one
of a series of boulders stretching 700 kilometers from
Jasper to Montana.
