Joule Grader Joule Grader is a quick and easy way to grade activities in your Moodle Course and provide feedback. Joule Grader only works with Assignment and Advanced Forum activities. You can access the Joule Grader through the Settings Block on your course page. Once in the Joule grader you can select the activity and student you wish to grade using the drop menus at the top right. Other options include a full screen view, and clicking “show activities requiring grading” to limit the selection lists to those that require grading. Switch to full screen Limit activities to those that require grading Arrows navigate through activities and students Select activity Select student The Joule Grader is divided into three sections. Content Area: Located on the left side, this area will display the content of the activity. Assignments with a file upload will show the file submissions available to download. Grading Area: Located on the top right, this area allows you to enter grades for the activity. This includes all advanced grading methods such as rubrics. Advanced forums can now also be graded using advanced grading methods. Feedback Area: Located on the right below the grading area, this area is where various forms of feedback can be added. Feedback can be provided in three ways for most activities. Activities using advanced grading methods such as a rubric provide feedback through the rubric. -Feedback methods Overall Feedback: Enabled in the activity settings under Feedback settings, “Feedback comments” allows for feedback that students can see in the gradebook and the activity. (When using advanced grading methods feedback is entered through the grading method) File Feedback: Enabled in the activity settings under Feedback settings, “Feedback files” allows instructors to upload a feedback file that students can access through Joule Grader or the activity. (When using advanced grading methods file feedback is entered through the grading method) Activity Comments: Enabled in the activity settings under Submission settings, “Submission comments” allows both students and instructors to leave comments to each other in the Joule Grader. Activity comments only become available after the student makes a submission to the activity. Activity comments are available with both activities regardless of the grading method. Note: Activity Comments are saved separately from the activity grade and feedback. Be sure to click save for both.
