Opposite/Absolute Value Flipbook
Purpose: I have found that students often mix up absolute value with a number’s opposite. This
flipbook helps students see the difference between the two in one location.
Directions for use: Cut on the dotted lines, and fold on the solid lines.
I have students write the definition of each word behind the word, and draw a number line showing
how we found the opposite or absolute value of each number on the far side. See the picture below for
an example. I have students glue this into their math notebooks to reference throughout the year.
