Playgroup News
We enjoyed our first Eurythmy lesson this
week. Welcome to Nicole.
In the Winter Garden,
Our class meeting this term will be in
week three on Thursday 5th August 7.30
– 9.30. Please let me know if there is a
particular topic you would like to discuss.
Little Lanterns glow,
Gnomes are working, caring, working
For the plants below…….
Warm greetings to all and welcome back
to Term 3 , 2013. I hope your holidays
have been restful.
Remember – warm coats, a change of
clothes and fruit each day.
The gnomes have been working and
caring for our playgroup garden over
the winter holidays with many jonquil,
daffodil and iris bulbs showing their first
green shoots and thronds. Our white
jonquils are in flower.
Class 1 News
We have been busy pruning all our roses
this week and trying our luck at “striking a
cutting” for our own gardens.
We continue with our weaving looms
creating little rugs and cloth for
decorating the playgroup tables and for
the children to include in their play. In
and out, in and out work our busy fingers
as we take a breath from the business of
the day and remember to be consciously
in the now. This week we are enjoying
date scones and lots of mandarins.
Looking forward to another lovely term.
Love Tania Chaffey.
Prep News
Look out, look out Jack Frost is about,
He’s after your fingers and toes.
And all through the night, with fingers so
white
He goes where nobody knows.
Welcome to term 3. It was lovely to see
the children after the holidays. They
were very pleased to see all their friends
and settled quickly back into our rhythm,
wasting no time getting busy with their
play. I trust you all enjoyed the holidays.
We now have two lambs to feed, Snow
White and Snowball. Snow White
has grown and changed a lot over the
holidays.
Best wishes for a happy term. Heather
Welcome back all! How lovely to have
almost everyone back. Now we have
all had time to recuperate, we will be
striding forward towards consolidating
our letters and numbers and expanding
our use of them. Raincoat, gumboots
and at least one change of clothes are
very necessary now.
We are also bringing to school everyday
an observation of nature to draw and
write about each morning in our “Nature
Journey” book.
Cheers Anna.
Class 2 News
Class 2 have started the term with much
gusto after the winter holidays. We are
currently hearing stories about a very
special person – St Francis. We will hear
especially about his love for all creatures
on earth and learn his special song “ The
Canticle of the Sun” also known as “Praise
of all Creatures”. We are very pleased to
hear that children have recovered from
their holiday illnesses! We would also
like to send our love and best wishes
for a speedy recovery from appendicitis
to Jovian and welcome into our class
Jemima and her family.
Love Danilo & Diana
“All the darkness in the world cannot
extinguish the light of a single candle”
-St. Francis
Class 3 News
Welcome back everybody. Class 3 have
had a lovely settled start to term and
welcomed a new class member Elkan Lau
from Hong Kong.
Our first lesson block this term is the
world of Hebrew stories. Over the next
few weeks we will be learning about the
founders of the Israelite nation from
Abraham to Joshua.
Please note our class meeting next week.
Attendance from each family is requested
please.
Hope you are all very well and that we
have left the flu season behind us!
Regards Jacob.
Class 4 News
We have returned to school full of “Viking
Vigour” which we hope to harness
somewhat as we prepare over the next
few weeks for our Viking play.
During this first week back we have been
enjoying looking at the children’s Viking
projects and hearing their talks. Some
wonderful work has been done and we
look forward to the animal projects later
in the term.
It will be another busy and productive
term!
Regards, Anne.
Class 5 News
It was with a little bit of nervousness for
all of us that Class 5 gathered together to
start this new term and this new way of
working together.
We welcome back Isaiah to our class and
give a big welcome to Ian and his family
who are spending time with us from Hong
Kong.
Although we have only just arrived back
we have already been very busy getting
to know each other and starting our
new Main Lesson which will continue

the work about the ancient world as we
explore the story of Gilgamesh, and the
Land Between Two Rivers. This story is
the earliest known written literature and
yet tells about people who are really not
so very different to us. It is a wonderful
way to look at some geography whilst
developing our written skills and learning
how the earliest written language was
formed.
It was wonderful to watch Class 6 young
people bound in with lots to chat and
laugh about after a holiday where a
number of families experienced quite
severe flu.
I was delighted to meet up with Class 7
students and to commence our Spring
Term. Clusters of jonquils and even pink
blossoms and gold wattle have been
observed already!
There are many interesting things
planned for this term - Danilo will be
working with Rock and Water, and the
Specialist Teachers sound like they have
some great programs to share.
We began our term with the experience
of darkness in our room , continued with
creating light and then revealing the
unrevealed – the path of light! Lots of
good discussion took place as beautiful
light and colour combinations appeared
on the front page of each Main Lesson
Book – first steps in the Physics of Light
and Colour which will be enhanced
further in Year 7 and again in year 8.
Our first Main Lesson involves writing in
poetry and prose to express our feelings
of Wish, Wonder and Surprise. Students
are begging to appreciate a thought from
J.W. von Goethe who saw a wish to be
“passionate anticipation that transforms
what is already possible into dreamt for
reality?’
I hope you all had wonderful holidays.
Dagmar will be back to see what we are
up to later in the week.
A Class newsletter will be sent home later
this week with lots of information about
the term.
Best Wishes,
Warm wishes, Lyn
Please note our Class meeting is on the
fourth Tuesday evening of each Term i.e.
6th August @ 7.30pm.
Love and best wishes John
Diana.
Class 8 News
Welcome back everyone to another exciting term. We’ve started the term with a Main lesson on the physics behind the eye, the
ear and the hand. Rehearsals for The Tempest have started. Please support your children with line learning.
I hope you have all made a note of the change of date of our Class meeting. It’s now on the 30th July at 7.30pm. Hopefully you
can all make it.
I have asked Nicole, our new Eurythmy teacher to come and introduce herself. A
wonderful opportunity so don’t miss out!
Cheers Rob

French News
Classes Seven and Eight would like to wish everyone a Joyeux Quatorze Juillet - best wishes for the French National Day,
known all over the world as Bastille Day, and recently celebrated on July 14. We will begin this term with a brief look at the
significance of this celebration ... and possibly just a peep at that other great event on the French calendar - the hundredth
year of Le Tour de France! Lynn

Apology regarding NBN tower in
Muckleford
The school would like to apologise
to parents for underestimating the
significance of the planned NBN tower
near the school. The school now
recognises that parents are stakeholders
and should have had the opportunity
to object to the construction of the
tower when notice was given on the
11 December 2012 and within the
prescribed 10 day notice period. The
school is working on strategies for better
communication.
After having a public meeting on this
issue on Wednesday 17th July, where a
wide range of views were presented, the
school’s formal position is that the tower
must be moved as it may have a negative
financial impact through decreased
current and future enrolments.’

Health Matters
Asthma tips for Parents and Carers this Winter
Winter can be a hard time for people with asthma as cold weather, coughs, colds and the flu
can bring on more symptoms and attacks.
•
The common cold is caused by a virus and it is important to try not to cough and sneeze
near other people, and to wash hands properly to prevent passing on the infection. The
flu is different to the common cold and can be a much more serious viral infection.
•
People with asthma are recommended to have an annual influenza vaccination (the flu
shot). Preventing the flu protects people with asthma, as those with asthma are often
unwell for longer and have a much harder time recovering from the flu.
•
Make sure your child’s asthma is well-controlled; this will help them to bounce back
quicker from a cough or cold and will help prevent asthma attacks when they are unwell.
•
Some medications and herbal remedies that we use for colds and flu can make asthma worse. Speak to your doctor or pharmacist
about any concerns you may have.
•
Antibiotics are not normally prescribed for the common cold, or influenza, as these medications will not help a cold get better.
Effective medications may include paracetamol and decongestants; however seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist before
purchasing them for your child.
•
Suggested remedies for the flu and the common cold are: rest, staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water, staying away from
cigarette smoke, using steam inhalation, gargling with salty water for a sore throat and seeking medical advice if concerned at any
time.
For more information on the common cold, medications and references used in this article please see the Better Health Channel (State
Government of Victoria) - www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au and the NPS website - www.nps.org.au.
