2nd JUNE 2016
DATES FOR YOUR DIARY
What an incredible week we have
had! Every pupil in Pre-Prep
performed in our Music concerts in
our spectacular auditorium this
week, showcasing the Music they
have been learning all year—
whether it be action songs,
accompanying a song with a
percussion instrument, playing the ocarina or
performing in the Year 1 and 2 ECA choir. Our last
performance of the week was the ballet ECA dancing
Act II of Swan Lake which was beautiful and moved
many to tears. Our heartfelt thanks go to Mrs Jen
Mitchell for her outstanding musical direction and to
Mrs Laura Hellenius for her dedication with our
ballerinas.
6th June - of term Ramadan timings 8:30-1:30 whole

RAMADAN
The children will be divided into their houses and will
undertake the quiz together. They will work
collaboratively to answer the questions. We will have
different categories: guess the logo, general
knowledge, guess the characters, maths challenge, odd
one out, Pictionary and spell it. The scores from the
quiz will go towards the final house scores with one
house winning the prestigious Pre-Prep House cup at
the end of the year.
Ramadan hours are expected to start next Monday,
dependant on the official sighting of the moon. If
Ramadan does start then, Slices will be serving on
Sunday. Once Ramadan starts, all pupils not fasting
need to bring in their own snack and lunch which they
will eat in the classroom. Ramadan timings are as
follows:
8:30am
Staff in Classrooms and registration
8:40am

YEAR 1 LEARNING FOR LIFE
The Year 1’s have been thinking about what a role
model is, why we look up to people and whether the
children make sensible choices in whom they choose to
follow. Many children shared how their parents or
grandparents were role models and why. The children
then looked to the wider community and met with Mr
Law to interview him in an assembly this week.
Mr Law kindly answered the children’s questions about
his choices in life, who he looked up to and what he
wanted to be as a child, which was initially a ‘pilot’. In
between meetings, Mr Law hoped he made a difference
to Cranleighans. He was humbled to say the highlight of
his day is spending time with the children. Did you
know Mr Law has about 35 ties and that he too is
passionate about the ocean and sailing? The children
left with an impression of a ‘superhero’ who is a real
person too!
Please talk to your children at home about your role
models and life path and continue to inspire them. We
will talk further in class about taking small steps to
achieve and to reach upwards with great ambition.

HOUSE CAPTAINS’ BREAKFAST
The Housemasters were busy this morning preparing
a sumptuous breakfast feast for the house captains.
The Year 8 common room was a fitting venue for
them to enjoy eggy bread, chocolate croissants,
cinnamon toast and cheerios –all of which was
washed down with a nice cup of hot chocolate. Mrs
Moonesinghe dropped by and enjoyed a few tasty
treats and thanked the house captains for all their
hard work and support this year. It’s hard to believe
that they will move to Year 3 in August.
Mr Tesdale
Some parents have asked for the lyrics of the final song performed at the FS2-Y2 concerts., so here they are. The
song became a favourite of the children’s since we started singing it in Y1/Y2 assembly and for us really sums up
Cranleigh Pre-Prep pupils, especially this week. More photos of the concerts and ballet show will follow next
week.
