United Nations International School Hanoi
Summer Reading Program 2013
Grade 11 - Language B HL/SL
An integral part of the UNIS English and World Languages Department is our focus on the
Independent Reading Program. We strive to emphasize free choice reading and
discovering texts and books that interest, inspire and challenge your thinking. Upon
returning on August 15th you need to have read a selected amount of required reading for
the language B course you have selected in the Diploma Program.
The purpose of the summer reading program is to support you in the continued
development of your reading skills; and second, the completion of these texts will, from the
first day of school, provide students and teachers with an immediate basis for discussion
and analysis of current events and trends and a look at your impressions and thoughts
about them.
You will be expected to complete a readers’ journal – focusing on the theme – Human
Rights. The purpose of the theme is to have a focus on human rights – learn more about the
issues globally surrounding human rights, and then come to class with information about
this topic. We will then share and present what we have learned with regards to Human
Rights and their influence in our world today.
