Hiwi Goes Fishing
Hiwi the Kiwi went fishing for fun
And food for his family and everyone
He caught a snapper on his fishing rod
That fish was so small Hiwi thought “It’s a cod”
The snapper said “Hiwi, not big big I’m wee wee
In fact I’m too tiny to cook
Think of my mummy if I’m in your tummy
Please Hiwi let me off the hook”
I’m Hiwi the Kiwi so I’ll let him go
I’ll free him to swim round the ocean and grow
I only keep fish that I’m able to eat
I put them on ice they’re no good in the heat
And when I’m old and have kids of my own
They might catch that snapper and see how he’s grown
And oh how happy this Kiwi will be
And so will the creatures that live in the sea
Hiwi the Kiwi went fishing for fun
And food for his whanau and everyone
He caught a marlin that danced on its tail
That fish was so huge Hiwi thought “It’s a whale”
The marlin said “Hiwi please tag and release me
I’ve got eggs inside me to hatch
I promise no maybes I’ll make lots of babies
For kids in the future to catch”
I’m Hiwi the Kiwi so I’ll let her go
I’ll free her to swim round the ocean and grow
I only keep fish that I’m able to eat
I put them on ice they’re no good in the heat
And when I’m old and have kids of my own
They might catch that marlin and see how she’s grown
And oh how happy this Kiwi will be
And so will the creatures that swim in the sea
Hiwi the Kiwi went snorkelling one day
For paua and scallop and kina and cray
He spied an octopus sleeping down there
He sneaked up behind him and gave him a scare
That creature said “Hiwi I knew you could see me
But look I’m not swimming away
I’ll squirt you with ink, your feathers will stink
Your mates won’t come near you all day”
I’m Hiwi the Kiwi I live in a nest
I come out at night, in the day time I rest
I live on the forest floor down by a creek
My nostrils are found at the tip of my beak
There’s two large feet at the end of my legs
And Wiki my wife lays extremely large eggs
My wings are so short I can no longer fly
I live in New Zealand I’m your kind of guy
