SWANPOOL MEADOWS GEN SET FOR SALE.

Kevin is our resident electrical engineer and has been the custodian of the unit
since 1990.
Meadows Diesel engines are renowned for reliability and durability. Meadows supplied
engines in many configurations, both diesel and petrol. The company operated until 1968
when it was swallowed up by British Leyland.
The unit for sale is believed to have been built for the Australian Army during WW2.
Following the war, it was the power source for a cattle station in central Australia. It was
later to become the standby power source for the Birchip Drive-In until 1990, when it was
purchased as the stand-by power unit for the Swanpool & District Memorial Hall, which is
the home of the Swanpool Cinema. The unit will be supplied with a ‘User Handbook and
Service manual’ along with a maintenance log for all repairs completed during the time at
Swanpool. The unit is run under load, at least once per month to ensure that it remains fully
operational. The Swanpool & District Memorial Hall is a designated Neighbourhood Safer
Place and reliable standby power is essential.
The hall is currently undergoing major renovations and the space occupied by our cherished
gen. set is to be taken over by extensions to the kitchen area. And as we all know, when
‘they who must be obeyed’, say that the gen set has to go, then, the gen set had better go!!
We therefore have to move our standby power unit to another location within the facility,
which is limited in space. A new, more compact unit, will provide our auxiliary power
following the renovations.
The sad story is that our reliable and much cherished standby power unit, which has
provided exceptional service to our community hall and unique cinematic facility for many
years, needs to go to a new home.
