attend one or more of the services and took some time to reflect upon your
spiritual walk with Jesus.

Throughout Lent and Easter, in both our Celebration and Traditional services, it has
been a delight to see the lovely gifting at Central through spoken word, choirs,
leaders, instruments, and beautiful decorations. Central, I give you thanks!! Well
done!!!
Working together does make a difference. I’ve heard that some people at Central
have asked how they might become involved in the life of the church. If this is a
question you have had, please give me a call and let’s talk. One thing I’ve learned
about ministry is that it’s not about plugging people in to do what we’ve always
done. Ministry is working together with our particular gifts and finding the way God
might use those gifts in this place and in this time. We begin in conversation.
And now we burst into May which doesn’t seem possible, does it? The month of
May is always busy with end of school year activities, graduations, and all sorts of
other celebrations before summer blazes upon us and the summer vacations
commence. For a few moments we celebrate the glory of the season of spring.
As a child, spring meant more time playing outside. Our winter things were packed
away in moth balls or sent to the cleaners for storage through the summer. The
heavy bedspreads were replaced with light summer weight quilts.
One of the quilts in our home was made in a beautiful Double Wedding Ring
pattern. I loved looking at the small squares of fabrics as I traced my fingers along
the circular designs and searched for matching
pieces of fabric. I don’t have a story behind who
made that Wedding Ring quilt or when it came to
be in our family. I do know that the Wedding Ring
quilt seemed welcoming to me and always cool on
a hot summer’s day.

Quilts have stories. We have stories to tell about quilts. So, I would like to request that we have Quilt Sunday
on May 14th. On that Sunday our scriptures, Psalm 23 and John 10:1-10 will remind us of the Good Shepherd
and God’s embrace.
I’m inviting you to bring a quilt to church that day and we will drape the them over some of our pews so we
can marvel at the expanse of God’s handiwork and the hands that quilted those pieces together. Quilt Sunday
we will be a time we remember the Good Shepherd and those who have nurtured and surrounded us with
comfort and love as we have moved through life.
As God continues to stitch us together in this living quilt called church, remember that God is living through
each of us as we move about in the world. Be the hands and feet!
Cheers and Blessings,
Lucia

The scriptures on May 14th
remind us of our foundational nourishment and
nurturing. As God continues to
piece us together into this living
quilt, spanning the generations,
we’ll celebrate with quilts. Bring
a quilt from home that you would
be willing to drape over a few
pews so people can admire the wonder of God’s
work. What a beautiful way to remember God’s
handiwork in our midst.

Happenings
On April 23, a small but energized team from Central joined 150-200
other community members at Columbian Park in the Homeward
Bound walk to provide housing and to fight homelessness in Indiana.
It was a beautiful day and the park was filled with people enjoying
various activities. Central’s team raised $370.00 in addition to other
donations by members given directly to the cause The goal for this
event is to raise $40,000 but the final count will not be made for a few more weeks, which means that there
is still time to make a contribution either to Sara Stallings, the church office or even in the collection plate.
Just be sure to mark it as going to Homeward Bound!

The Habitat for Humanity Home Building Season is Underway. Central has a
long history of supporting and participating in providing affordable housing in our area
and will again this fall, join with of other local churches in the Apostles' Build. Each
church sponsor, in addition to working on the home, has set a goal to raise $3,000 for the
materials. We will be looking for 'workers' later in the summer, but are asking now for
your assistance in meeting our financial commitment by August 1st.
To help out please send your donation either directly to Habitat for Humanity, 420 South 1st Street,
Lafayette, IN 47905 or send/bring your gift to the Central, 31 N 7th Street, Lafayette, IN 47901. In
which ever way you choose, it is important that you designate that your donation is for the Apostles'
Build/Central Presbyterian on the check memo line or on your envelope. All support will be greatly
appreciated. As we learn more details of our home build, we will keep everyone updated. For more
