Percentage increase
For the past 18 months we have been working our way through the
postal system to request a greater commission percentage. We are excited
to announce that we have received an increase from the United States Postal
Service. We have been receiving 10% of every purchase. Now we will be
receiving 9% for stamps and 19% for printed postage. This should result in
an approximate 8% overall increase in our commissions.
Christmas is right around the corner and we can help you with all
of your mailing and shipping needs.
Please purchase your stamps and ship your packages in
downtown Washington and tell all of your friends!

A few words from our board Member Angie Williams
My name is Angie Williams and I currently serve as a board member for Downtown
Washington Inc. I have worked in Washington for a little over 6 years now. I did not grow up in
Washington, and when I transferred over here for work, I was a little nervous about joining a
new community. I quickly learned there was nothing to be nervous about! Everybody was so
kind and welcoming. I really enjoy the atmosphere and vibe of downtown Washington. Even
though Washington is not my hometown, it definitely feels like home to me now because of all
the wonderful people and relationships I have made.
One of the reasons I feel connected to Washington is
because of the volunteer spirit this community has. I have never
seen anything like it! It is amazing the way the community
works together to support organizations that are making a positive difference in the community. I
really enjoy spending time working side by side with people at different events throughout the
year. I usually bring my two wonderful children with me to help out at a lot of these events. My
son, Dominic, is 10 years old and my daughter, Elise, is 3. I love that I have the opportunity to
teach them the importance of volunteering and giving back to the community at a young age.
One event that holds a special place in my heart is the upcoming annual Murder Mystery dinner,
which is Friday November 18th. This event is a fundraiser for Downtown Washington Inc. We partner
with The Riverside Players to bring you an exciting evening of entertainment! This year is especially
exciting because the theme is “Ugly Christmas Sweater”. I am so excited to see what type of sweater I can
come up with for the event! Order your tickets online at www.downtownwashmo.org/shop early
because seating is limited.

2016 Sunset Season
What a great Sunset on the Riverfront
season! Another year of music, fun, food and
friends is in the books.
This year we unveiled our new Sunset
on the Riverfront logo in excited anticipation
of our new bridge. While we’re sad to see the
bridge go, the new bridge will bring a new
skyline and opportunities for growth.
The group of volunteers that help plan
Sunset are dedicated to creating an inviting and
comfortable environment for us to enjoy local
music and Washington’s beautiful riverfront.
They did a wonderful job and deserve our
thanks and appreciation.
Planning for our 2017 Sunset on the
Riverfront season will begin in December and
we will see more local bands and food.
Farm to Table Dinner
77 degrees, blue skies and a slight breeze marked the inaugural Farm to Table Dinner. Over 200 guests,
committee members and volunteers attended the evening. The menu included: Chips & Salsa - prepared by
Chef Antonio Avila of SouthSide Taco, Bruschetta - prepared by Chef Greg Connor of Driftwood, Tomato
Bisque - prepared by Chef Josh Munter of Marquart’s Landing, Happy Apple Salad - prepared by Chefs Ed
& Joette Reidy of Happy Apples, Fennel Pollen and Herb Rubbed Pork Loin - prepared by Chef Pat Long
of Café Mosaic, White Barbecue Grilled Chicken - prepared by Chef Ben Wunderlich of Old Dutch
Tavern, Smoked Brisket - prepared by Pitmaster Adam Skornia of Sugarfire Smokehouse,
Roasted Potatoes - prepared by Chef Carla Poepsel of Jennie & Grace, Zucchini Gratin prepared by Chef Jordan Knight of The Blue Duck, Sweet Corn, Bread and Ole Fashion
Blackberry or Blueberry Cobbler - prepared by Chef Joe Reid of Joe’s Bakery &
Delicatessen
Tickets went on sale June 23 and were completely sold out by July 1. The Farm to Table committee, led
by Nancy Walkenhorst, worked tirelessly to bring this amazing event together. They were able to work with
50+ volunteers, restaurants and our wonderful farmers and suppliers. The evening was a grand success! We
were able to raise $13,500.00 for the Farmers’ Market building. All of this was also
made possible by our presenting sponsor . . . Mercy. Their generous sponsorship
helped to defer the costs of the event and we are truly grateful for their
participation.
As with all events, there were many working parts for this dinner. We would like to thank
all of our farmers, vendors and volunteers for their amazing contributions. Please show them you
appreciation. Deppe Farms - pork and sweet corn, Farwig Farms - white meat chicken, Stuart Farms
- dark meat chicken, Greg Skornia - blackberries, Happy Apple - Happy Apples, Hilltop Gardens onions and basil, Hunter’s Ridge Berry Farms - blueberries & blackberries, Old Men Potato Farmers
- potatoes & onions, Williams Brothers - beef and bacon, Stu and Judy Williams - summer squash,
Andy’s Produce Too - tomatoes and zucchini, Augusta Brewery, Stone Hill Winery, Augusta
Winery, Montelle Winery, Blumenhof Winery, Pinckney Bend
Distillery, Tanglewood Cottage, Hillermann Nursery & Florist, Four
Seasons Florist, Emmie Photo, Nic Nappier plus music from Dr. Phil

Chili Cook Off and Fall Festival of the Arts & Crafts
Well it was a warm Chili Cook Off and Fall Festival of the Arts this year. Our teams, crafters
and patrons had a great time in spite of the heat. We had 39 chili teams which means that we had over
390 gallons of chili to be served! Fall Festival hosted 64 booths. These booths featured hand made crafts
from throughout the US. Fall Festival also had a tremendous Children’s Area with games and crafts from
local businesses and non-profits as well as snow cones, balloon animals and . . . a baby T-Rex named
Tinkerbell! That’s Tinkerbell in the photo to the right. Mark your calendars for next year: Chili Cook
Off 9/22/2017 and Fall Festival of the Arts & Crafts 9/23-24/2017.
