,Pearl Harbor is a United States Navet base, in the
Hawaiian Islands in t~e Pacific Ocean. 28 years ago, on . .
December 7, 1941, Japanese forces attacked this base
and forced our country into the ,second World , War.
This was a surprise attack: There was no wa~ning. The
33 ships froni Japan sailed to ~ithin 200 'miles o~ our
bases. About 360 Japanese planes to~k part in the
bombing that lasted for 2 hours. The United: States lost
18 ships and 170 planes in the attack. Many Americans
lost their lives. "Remenlber ~earl Harbor" became it
well-known slogan of. the War. On December 8th-our
country declared war against the Japanese. On December 11 th we declared war on Germany and Italy, but
only after they had declared war on us. The Second
World War ended on September 2,1945.
