NVS NEWS - Ngakonui Valley School

2016 Term 3, Week 01
NVS NEWS
Principal’s Note
Half way through the year and we are excited
about the learning that is happening…or is
going to be happening at NVS this term. There is so much on offer and really ticks all
the boxes for our NVS thinker, NVS learner
and NVS citizen of our school vision.
I hope you are prepared for the ride. Remind
your child it’s OK to wobble at times….and
that they will get there….to stretch and grow is
our theme. To Empower our children so that we
can grow from good kids into great kids!
So here is a brief taste of what is on offer!
Ski Days - reminder that there are 3 days
in total that we have booked. The senior
classes (Matai and Rata are up first on
the 10th August) followed by Oak and
Rimu and then the junior two classes.
Check inside the newsletter for the dates!
Speeches - please encourage your child to
have a go at these. Help prepare them.
Once again the expectation is that all
children at our school will prepare and
deliver a speech.
Read and feed workshop- come and
learn/ discuss and be informed on our
reading programmes here at school and
how you can help at home.
Wearable Arts - house challenge- with the
final product being presented at our Uncle
and Aunts afternoon.
Snow Trips
Rata/Matai - Wed 10th Aug
Oak/Rimu - Tue 16th Aug
Kahikatea/Kowhai - Fri 9th Sep
Please ensure your children have
their gear ready and all payments
must be paid in full one week before
they leave for the mountain.
Arts Splash Evening and Electives - a
family favourite…make sure you come
along and see what great performers we
have here at the school including the staff!
NVS 5km Fun Run - around the Lairdvale
circuit.
BIG Blokes Breakfast - to celebrate
Father’s Day- let the staff cook a lovely
breakfast for all the dads!
Matai Class Camp - how excitingkayaking, high ropes, abseiling and flying
fox!
Mini meez, basketball and netball……
Cross country
Interschool Quiz Challenge
Parent Interviews - student reflection
reports
Inquiry with the theme of wellbeing….based
around the Olympics.
So I think there is definitely something for
everyone.
We believe so much in growing the whole
child…I certainly know that there are
challenges ahead in their learning but that’s
how we get them to wobble and grow.
Into the learning pit we go!
See you throughout the term- and remember
we are always here to help and support!

We are very pleased to announce that the
school will be painted over the summer holidays
this year. Brad Galloway and his team will be
painting the school for us. We are all very
excited and can’t wait to see the results!
reminding the children to get into the learning
pit and stretch and grow this term.
We don’t want easy learning….we want to
get into the pit and really wobble and work
hard finding strategies to help us solve
problems and therefore learn! We want to
have the growth mindset of continually
learning and growing. There is no such thing
Calf Rearers 2016
We are looking for some lovely families to help
rear our school calves. This is an ongoing
investment programme of the board and we
hope you are able to help.

looking at healthy food and choices for all the
classes. We like seeing Harold and this year
he has a new teacher - Andrea! We are
looking forward to a week of learning.
End of Term Play
Congratulations Matai class on a great end
of term performance. We simply loved the
play on the Olympics.
This term Oak and Rimu have the task of
putting on a great performance. A little bird
has told me that Mrs Wright was busy writing
over the holidays! So it will be great!
where they are at and where they need to go
and how they are going to get there. To not
be in the same place when the term comes to
an end!
Buddy
This week Buddy goes to Jayden Leatuafi of Rata class.
Jayden is an amazing year 8 leader who always strives
for his best and encourages others to do the same.
Vulnerable Childrens' Policy
The Board have reviewed the VCA policy. This
will be shortly put on our school website if
anyone is interested in reading it. Look under the
BOT page of our school website.
Pay clip/eftpos at the school office!
The office will soon be up and running with our
very own pay clip! No more cash especially

School Donation
We do have a school donation. This helps us pay
for the little things (like Life ed!)
This donation is tax deductible. Call our office if
you wish to receive more information.
Balance Fertiliser Programme
Do you know of any farmer who is putting
Balance fertiliser on their farm during spring? If
you do talk to us or Dean Hamilton. PGG
Wrightsons are doing a cash back programme
for school and we would love it if you would
nominate our school. Every dollar counts.
Call in and see Dean at the Wrightson’s store, if
you want to find out more.
Life-Ed
Jayden always shows his REAP values both in class and
out in the playground.
He has a great learning mindset and is never afraid to
jump in the learning pit in order to better his learning.
Well done Jayden, I hope Buddy has a great week at
home with you and your family.
when you call out to pay for your uniforms or
camp deposits! It runs just like an eftpos
machine. PTA Chairs

start the new term. Thank you.
NVS SPORTS
Note from Hockey Organizers
Please note that finals will be on Wednesday 3rd August, at 5pm, followed by
PRIZE GIVING afterwards. Finals will be TEAM 1# against TEAM 2#. The
evening will be a fun night with a BBQ and team prizes. Trophies and certificates will
be handed out to all players and to children who participated in small sticks. We
understand that this is later in the year than anticipated and this is due to bad
weather and flooding on the courts and we would appreciate your understanding. We are considering starting earlier next year and would be interested in your opinion
(e.g. middle of term 2) Also we need additional helpers on the Hockey committee, if
you can help please let us know.
