Young Historians
Technology: 1950s to Present
Saturday, April 11, 10 a.m. to Noon
at the History Center
Young Historians will explore technology of the 1950s to present on
Saturday, April 11. Young Historians is a free, hands-on history
workshop the second Saturday of each month September-May for
elementary and middle school age kids. Pre-registration is

Genealogist Beth Zimmer will share research tips for using the
census, newspapers and city directories to help you with your 1940s
genealogy.
Our History Matters is a monthly educational program free for
BECHS Members, $5 for non-members.
Volunteer Tour Guides Needed
The Blue Earth County Historical Society seeks volunteer tour
guides for the Historic R.D. Hubbard House. New tour guides need
to fill out a Volunteer Application and return it to BECHS no later
than April 3.
Tour guide training will be either April 7 or April 9 at 5 p.m. at the
History Center. Returning and new volunteers are encouraged to
attend.

In Minnesota Homefront,
World War II, visitors discover what it was like to “make do” with
rationing, farm during a severe labor shortage, work on the Iron
Range, develop inventions for the War, and be trained as a translator
Seasonal Position
Begins May 1st through

at Fort Snelling. Minnesota Homefront is on display at the History
Center through June 20. Free and open to the public.

operation of the Hubbard House

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for BECHS Members, $5 for children
5-17 and kids under 5 are free.
Tickets on sale April 1.
Expansion Update
The new Research Center has been painted and new carpet has been
installed. This week we will be moving the Research Center to its
new home. The Research Center will be closed April 2 and will
reopen April 3 in its new location. We will need volunteers to help
with moderate lifting all this week, please contact Danelle to
volunteer or for more information. Check back on Facebook and
Twitter to follow our progress.
Please consider supporting BECHS with a donation for either the
building acquisition and improvements or to the general operating
fund. Donations can be made by check or through our
online donation page. Here are a few specific improvement projects
that we are currently seeking financial support for:






$2,000 to purchase new microfilm reader printers in the
Research Center (balance remaining after the grant)
$3,000 to purchase two compact shelving units for
collections storage
$4,000 covers one of seven quarterly building acquisition
payments
$10,500 for Facility Conditions Assessment, Feasibility
Study and Schematic Drawings – to help us prioritize and
evaluate necessary repairs.
$15,000 for renovations to the new Research Center and
Volunteer Workroom including: new hallway entrance,
carpet and paint.
$1 Million to fully realize our vision of the new Blue Earth
County History Center!
