Fieldays Ag Art Wear Entrant Guide 1 Entry Guide Ag Art Wear A MYSTERY CREEK EVENT ESTABLISHED BY 2015 New Zealand National Agricultural Fieldays | Mystery Creek, Hamilton, New Zealand 10 - 13 June Ag Art Wear is a prestigious competition encouraging artists and designers from across New Zealand and Australia to delve into the depths of their imagination and create a piece of wearable art for the body from materials used in the farming industry. Held within the NZ National Agricultural Fieldays, Ag Art Wear is where fashion meets the farm, creating a fashion show like no other. Each successful entrant is choreographed in a spectacular catwalk-styled runway production, giving artists and designers an opportunity to showcase their talents and have their names in bright lights. If yes, then Designer Traditional is for you. Designers need to create a conventional and traditional styled garment, embracing the competition’s theme of sourcing materials used in farming. The garment should have artistic features but embrace innovative design approaches as showcased on the great couture runways of Europe. Avant Garde Unleash your inner creative genius and create a piece of art for the body that is outrageously experimental and pushes the boundaries of conventional design. Entrants should create a visual effect that will generate audience reaction. Designs in this category do not encompass traditional clothing elements. The objective is to create a mind-blowing effect – challenging, innovative, radical and unique. Classroom Couture Fostering aspiring young artists and designers, this category is open to those currently attending a secondary education institution. Designs in this category may either resemble traditional garment styles and shapes or may be an ultra modern piece of art for the body following the Avant Garde theme. To compete in this category, entrants must be attending a secondary school at the time of the competition entry deadline of 8 May 2015. See pg 8 for more details on this category. Ag Art Wear Entry Process Step 1 Entries open 3 November ,2014. Indicate your intention to enter by completing the expression of interest form and paying the entry fee. This must be completed by Friday, 10 April, 2015 Step 2 Complete the garment detail form and submit a photograph of your finished design. This must be completed by Friday, 8 May, 2015 Step 3 Garments are due at Mystery Creek Events Centre by 5pm Monday, 11 May, 2015. Please note: if your garment is not on site it will not be accepted into the show. All entries must be original designs and creations of the Garments must: entrant. Garments entered previously into New Zealand competitions are permitted to enter the competition Entry does not guarantee inclusion in the Ag Art Wear shows at Fieldays 2015. Judges reserve the right to reassign designs to another category at their discretion. No correspondence will be entered into. Traditional fasteners may be used but they should be covered by relevant agricultural material so they can’t be seen. Naturally occurring items may be utilised i.e. feathers, fur, seeds, bone, plant materials etc. with the exception of noxious plant materials. Headwear must be safe to wear, well balanced and able to be secured to the models head. The models vision The following must accompany your entry: • Detailed wearing instructions, including clear front and must not be obscured. back photos (not drawings) Limit use of weed matting, frost cloth, milk filter sleeves • A list of all components and accessories of the design (including head and footwear). The packaging and garment must be clearly labeled with the designer’s name and garment title • One garment per package • Include a small repair kit with materials to manage any patch up requirements that may occur over the course of the event. This may not be returned • Garments made of perishable materials (i.e. plant materials, foods) must be treated to enhance durability. A suitable maintenance plan from the designer must be included in the garment instructions Size Restriction Garments for females must be made to fit New Zealand womens size 8 or 10. Garments made for male models must be made to fit New Zealand mens size M or L. Maximum dimensions: Height: 2.4m Width: 1.4m at floor level Length: 3mWeight: 10kg Please note: the garment’s weight must be evenly spread across the body and the garment must include accessories (i.e. wheels) if required to distribute weight away from the body. Garment collection Garments can be collected from Fieldays at 9am on Sunday, 14 June, 2015, until up to 5pm on Friday, 19 June, 2015. Garments uncollected after the collection deadline will become property of the organisers and may be disposed of or recycled as required. Insurance Insurance of the garment is the sole responsibility of the entrant. Organisers will not be liable for any damage or loss of any garment or accessory. 6 www.fieldays.co.nz Fieldays Ag Art Wear Entrant Guide Design Retention Rights New Zealand National Fieldays Society, as organisers of the Ag Art Wear competition reserve the right to; 1. Advertise the Ag Art Wear competition and competition garments 2. Take photographs of the garments, film rehearsals and performances of Ag Art Wears shows in which the garments feature. All photographic and video material remains the property of New Zealand National Fieldays Society and may be used for promotional and marketing purposes at any time in any print publication, digital space and/or broadcast medium. Where possible, acknowledgement will be made of the designer, the title of the garment and the year of its involvement in the competition. 3. Hold a garment for up to 12 months following the close of the 2015 Fieldays event. Garments may be required for promotional purposes including exhibitions, photographic sessions, historic display and/or teaching sessions. 4. Require the designer to supply the garment for promotional purposes upon request by the New Zealand National Fieldays Society. If required, all transportation costs shall be at the expense of the New Zealand National Fieldays Society. 5. Have first option to purchase any garment if it becomes available. 6. Re-create (in part or its entirety) a garment at any time for promotional and marketing purposes. 7. Restrict designers from selling, disposing of or recycling garments without the express permission of the New Zealand National Fieldays Society to preserve historically important and/or iconic designs if required. 7 How You Can Be Involved The Classroom Couture category provides a great opportunity to foster aspiring young artists and designers. The competition criteria also allows for schools to incorporate it into the Visual Arts and Textile and Design programmes for senior students, truly making this a unique experience. Here are some examples of where this could fit for your Year 12 and Year 13 students: Practical Art Level 2 Unit 91305 Demonstrate an understanding of methods and ideas from established practice appropriate to design. Level 3 Unit 6700 Prepare for and construct a textile item for a specified purpose.
