NEW ADDITON TO THE ART COLLECTION’S MANAGEMENT TEAM
On April 8, Nathalie Fortin joined the Ville de Sherbrooke’s Division
de la culture as an Art Collection Development Officer. She replaces
Francine Godbout who occupied the position for the past eleven
years.
After receiving her bachelor’s degree in art history, Nathalie Fortin
completed a master’s in art studies in which she studied women’s
art history, more specifically their place in the Contemporary Arts
Society, a group of modern artists from Montreal in the 1940s.
She then undertook a master’s in museology that allowed her to
examine new methods of contemporary art exhibition in Quebec
museums.
After teaching art history at the college level, particularly at
the Cégep de Sherbrooke where she still teaches occasionally,
Nathalie Fortin worked in art collection management, at the
Galerie de l’UQAM among others. She also took part in many
exhibition projects and ancient and contemporary art publications,
particularly for the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal.
The Ville de Sherbrooke’s mission is to facilitate access to culture
for all residents. In addition, since 2000 it has put an emphasis on
acquiring public artwork, namely works that are earmarked for
specific locations and are accessible to the general public in indoor
and outdoor public places. One of Nathalie Fortin’s main tasks will
involve the conservation of the collection, specifically preserving
the works for future generations. Considering that the public works
of art represent a real challenge, especially due to bad weather and
vandalism that may accelerate their deterioration, great vigilance
will be needed. Nathalie Fortin is proud to be able to contribute
to the development of a collection that enriches the living
environment of Sherbrooke residents in addition to promoting a
connection with contemporary art. In the near future, she would
like to develop new mediation tools, such as a mobile application,
to make the works of art even more accessible.

Modified medical imagery
This exhibition shows you the beauty of the mind-body connection
from the perspective of the connection of our cells through an
esthetic approach. The artist uses state-of-the-art nuclear magnetic
resonance diffusion technology.
All our interactions and all of our experiences have left a mark
somewhere in our bodies; our brains constantly change and
develop their internal structures based
on these influences. In a way, our
lives are encrypted in our connectome
(the complex network of neuronal
connections).

Images Filantes is a project that explores the construction of
identity, with its complexity and contradictions. It explores the
built environment and the landscapes of the artist’s region: the
Bas-Saint-Laurent. She was inspired by optical toys to recreate a
certain movement; a metaphor for the liveliness of an area that is
in a constant state of transformation and redefinition, just like the
concept of identity.

The Bernard-Bonneau Room – yours to discover!
Did you know that the Bernard-Bonneau room is fully equipped
to produce different types of concerts, plays, literary, and slam
evenings? For those who don’t already know, consider that it can
accommodate up to 350 people. The size of this space makes it a
very interesting performance venue to present shows.
a certain period of time. These details give a greater meaning to
the story and encourage the audience to take the time to look at
the photographs. This series includes a photo that received the jury
prize and audience award in a contest.
An art hub ready to meet its audience
For visual artists, the establishment of a special committee
dedicated to this type of art allows you to submit your application
directly and at any time. The Borough of Jacques-Cartier being
a hotbed of creative talent, a selection is made among all the
submissions received.
This exhibition site transforms into a hub of creative artistic
experimentation for the large number of people who visit the
Borough’s Centre communautaire et culturel. One of the goals of
this hub is to promote an encounter between a diverse audience
and different artists who present various different types of art.

Anne-Renée de Cotret
A self-taught multidisciplinary artist, Anne-René de Cotret’s
preferred medium is oil. She applies a variety of colours with a
spatula using spontaneous gestures. In constant exploration,
depending on the inspiration she feels, she paints life’s moments
split between reality and memories. Anne-Renée de Cotret’s style
lies between Figurativism and Impressionism, without ever crossing
the line. This positioning brings her great latitude in the creation of
a series on different themes. She doesn’t look to perfect the subject
through detail, but more through the emotion experienced by the
audience. For Anne-Renée de Cotret, the finished work must, above
all else, speak for itself and be a gateway to interpretation.

Super papa! by Thibaut Verheyden
This exhibition aims to make the audience laugh, particularly
parents who, in a society of modern communications, are inundated
with images of perfect parents. Each photograph humorously
tells a story of a father who is the antithesis of the perfect dad.
It is in some ways an anti-marketing of the model parent, with
a touch of self-mockery. The photos also sometimes harbour
details that don’t reveal themselves until you’ve studied them for

Mondart, multicultural collective, presents Tabou
Originating from Polynesian languages, in its
original context, “tabou” refers to a prohibition
that is sacred in nature, of which the transgression
leads to a supernatural punishment. Nowadays,
taboo refers to content which we shouldn’t speak
about out of fear or concern for decency, and that
it would be unseemly to evoke in terms of social,
moral, religious, or spiritual standards of propriety. In spite of its
title, the “Tabou” exhibition doesn’t mean to shock to offend, it
is intended to reflect on social conscience, the cruelty of attitudes,
the helplessness of victims, and the value gained and this view may
disturb.

Chantal Julien presents Parallèle
Exhibition of paintings inspired by the
contrasts and mysteries of countries. Following
my cultural journeys to Japan and Tunisia,
I wanted to explore the human side of
what is happening in these countries from
day to day by drawing
parallels between our cultures. The landscape,
always present in my works, now incorporates
characters. You’ll see, among others, scenes of
marketplaces, as well as pastoral and urban
scenes. The paintings are artistic interpretations
where I favoured the emotional aspects and
atmosphere.
