TRICK-OR-TREAT FLIERS
While many families will be out
enjoying the tricks and treats of
this ghoulish night, we want to
help make homes that welcome
trick or treaters more easily
noticed. Please stop by the
Communities Management Office
to pick up your bright orange
“Trick or Treaters Welcome” flier
to post on your front screen door
or front window. Please turn
porch lights on to help make the
fliers more visible from the
sidewalks and streets.
TRICK OR TREAKING IN THE
COMMUNITIES
The excitement of Halloween and trickor-treating are very present around Fort
Gordon and the BBC Communities! We
would like to give you a “heads up” of
events to come as you prepare for trickor-treating in the communities.
-Trick-or-treating will be celebrated on
Fort Gordon Thursday, October 31, 2013
from 6-8 PM for residents only. (Trickor-treating on Fort Gordon is not open to
the public.)
-BBC will pass out candy at the
Communities Management Office from
3:00-4:30 PM (while supplies last.)
-MPs will provide traffic control at the
entrance of all neighborhoods (minus
Boardman Lake) from 5:30PM – 8:00 PM.
-Watch for bright orange “Trick or
Treat” fliers posted on front doors and
windows to easily identify homes that
are passing out treats.
Stay tuned for your Halloween and trickor-treating updates as we draw nearer
to Halloween in the weeks to come.
Let’s make this a fun filled and safe
Halloween for everyone!
HALLOWEEN DECOR
As ghosts and goblins start
creeping around corners and
Halloween decorations start to
appear, here are a few things to
remember when decorating,
my dear:
1.) No derogatory or offensive
décor is allowed at any time.
Please keep in mind this is
family housing.
2.) Prohibited Items:
Rooftop decorations, nails,
spikes and building staples or
any other type of fastener that
may cause permanent damage.
3.) All Halloween decorations
must come down two weeks
after the holiday is over to
avoid Discrepancy Notices.
Now that the reminders have
been seen, let’s all have a safe
and SPOOKTACULAR Halloween!

Change in Seasons Calls for a Change in Safety Awareness
Known for pumpkin pie and crisp nights, fall is undoubtedly a favorite season among many. With lower
temperatures, longer nights, and flu-season right around the corner, a change in season calls for a change
in safety awareness. Below are tips to fight the flu and keep our community safe so everyone can enjoy a
festive autumn.
Stop the Spread: Fall Cold & Flu Prevention
Cold and flu season generally lasts between October and May. Follow these healthy habits to avoid
obtaining the unpleasant symptoms associated with the cold and flu.
o Avoid contact with people exhibiting flu-like symptoms. If you are the germy culprit
experiencing symptoms, do yourself and those around you a favor—rest up and keep to
yourself until symptoms are gone.
o Can’t help the coughs and sneezes? Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue and wash
your hands regularly to keep the germs at bay. Use disinfectant to clean contaminated
surfaces.
o Give your immune system the support it needs by sleeping well and checking your stress at
the door. Seven to nine hours of sleep every night is suggested to maintain a healthy
schedule. Physical activity and a diet complete with healthy foods and plenty of fluids have
been known to boost the immune system.
Car & School Bus Safety
Colder morning temperatures can create fog and frost for morning drivers. Be sure to add a few extra
minutes to your schedule in the morning to ensure all windows are clear before driving. In addition to fog
and frost, fall brings with it bright sunsets and longer nights. To combat sun glare, keep a pair of
sunglasses in your car. During darker hours, keep a close eye out for pedestrians and be sure to maintain
headlights that are not automatic.
Now that the kiddos are back in class, it is important for everyone to familiarize themselves with School
Bus safety. To view the BBC guidelines for school bus safety as well as other helpful safety tips, visit our
safety page at: www.ftgordonfamilyhousing.com. Children, parents, and drivers can all benefit from
reviewing these guidelines.
Heater Preparation
Rather than wait until the weather requires the use of a heater, now is the perfect time to test your heater to
make sure that it is working properly. If you are concerned about the effectiveness of your heating system,
please contact the Balfour Beatty Communities Maintenance Department directly at 706-772-9562.
At Balfour Beatty Communities, we wish all of our residents a healthy, safe fall. Be on the lookout for
autumn LifeWorks activities by checking our website for upcoming events:

October 19: Fall Community Yard Sale 8AM-12PM:
You asked and we listened! Let’s have a Fall Community Yard Sale! This will be very

a combined sale. Signs and posters can be made but MUST be displayed only in your
yard. They cannot be posted around Ft. Gordon, stop signs, light poles or entrances of
the neighborhoods. We will have the Mayor’s post it on the marquees and Community
boards, facebook, our website. This event is open to the public. If you wish to
participate, please RSVP by Oct. 15th with your name and address to Dana Wardell,
LifeWorks Coordinator at [email protected].
October 22: Halloween Decorating Contest 6 PM – 8 PM
Is your house the best decorated for Halloween in all of Fort Gordon? Let us be the
judge of that. All homes that are decorated (front yard only) are in the running for our
Halloween Decorating Contest. Only one winner can take home the prize so get creative
but remember the following guidelines to decorating which are: No derogatory or
offensive decor, no rooftop decorations, no nails, spikes, building staples or any other
fasteners that can damage any parts of the building. If you have any questions, please
contact the Community Management Office at 706-772-7041.
October 31: Trick-or-Treating in the Communities: 6-8 PM
It’s time to put on your best costume and roam the neighborhoods for the best tricks and
treats around! All neighborhoods with the exception of Boardman Lake, will be
displaying their ghoulish décor and passing out treats. All children ages 12 years and
under must be accompanied by a parent or adult that is 18 years of age or older. Be safe
and have a SCARETASTIC good time!
