Donna grew up in New York State outside of Rochester, N.Y. While growing up Donna’s family spent holidays at Wrightsville Beach and loved it. She attended University of Wilmington where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. After college she worked for various corporations around the U.S. but her heart always stayed with the Tar-Heel state. Family is a very important part of Donna’s life. She has three beautiful nieces and one very handsome nephew. Donna is the youngest of three children and her parents currently live in Florida. When Donna has free time she enjoys dancing, knitting, animals, outdoors, and home decor. So please welcome Donna to the Spring Arbor of Raleigh FAMILY! Popcorn Pick: “The Goonies” Secret caves, a lost pirate ship, a gang of kids who call themselves “Goonies,” and a lovable creature named Sloth. Those are just some of the reasons the 1985 comedyadventure “The Goonies” remains a cult classic among generations today. After discovering an old map, the Goonies go in search of a lost treasure that could save their Oregon neighborhood from developers. But in order to claim One-Eyed Willy’s pirate fortune, they have to outwit a series of booby traps, as well as a family of fugitives trying to beat them to it. Look for this month’s Halloween Movie Week starting Oct. 27-31. Each day will have a themed snack so come on down and get SPOOKED! ~The character most frequently portrayed in horror films is Count Dracula, the creation of the Irish writer Bram Stoker (1847-1912).~ RESIDENT Spotlight COTTAGE Care Hi, I’m Rhenada Alford, your new Cottage Care Coordinator. NEW STUFF Phyllis Wright This month’s resident spotlight at Spring Arbor of Raleigh is Phyllis Wright. Phyllis was born March 31, 1950. She is originally from Durham, N.C., but has lived in Kansas, Alabama, and Charlotte, N.C. Family is very important to Phyllis. She was married to Larry Wright and they had one daughter. Phyllis also is now a grandmother to her daughter’s handsome son. Her former occupation was a Management Planner for Environmental Protection Agency. When Phyllis has free time some of her favorite hobbies include reading, movies and shopping, but her favorite hobbies are cooking and baking. She loved to have the family together and to make meals that everyone enjoyed. Phyllis is a wonderful and outgoing person who does at times like her alone time, but never turns down an activity. She is full of love and compassion for her fellow residents. “Cooking is at once child’s play and adult joy. And cooking done with care is an act of love.” Craig Claiborne A new logo has been introduced for Spring Arbor’s Art from the Heart program. See page 4 for more details. Congrats to Nancy Britt on becoming a great-grandmother to this handsome man, Jaxson Thomas Trevino, who arrived on Sept. 6 and was 6 pounds, 9 ounces. Congratulations, Nancy, on the new member of your family!!!!! ART From The HEART HHHunt Senior Living has introduced a new logo for Spring Arbor’s Art from the Heart programs. You may have recently noticed the addition of the logo to our wall galleries of art in both the Assisted Living and Cottage areas of the community. Art stimulates the brain. It can be a useful way to reduce stress and anxiety, to help get in touch with feelings, to learn something new or to explore a new means of creativity, or simply to feel better about oneself. Art provides exercise for the brain and can help maintain or strengthen existing cognitive function. Engagement in art may also assist in creating new communication pathways for those with impaired verbal skills. Art encourages conversation and is often just plain old fun!! Our Art from the Heart program is accessible to all residents. Some residents enjoy creating art from their own imagination, while others prefer a visual prop to help stimulate their creativity. Some residents are able to work independently, others benefit from cueing and prompting from a partner-artist. Painting has proven the most popular approach to art in Spring Arbor, but some communities are also exploring art using chalks, pencils and/or clay. Some residents prefer not to create art themselves, but instead enjoy viewing and discussing works of art created by other professional or amateur artists. Each community’s Art from the Heart program is directed by the interests and preferences of our residents. We invite you to participate in Art from the Heart in our Spring Arbor community. You can actively paint or create right along with our resident artists, you can teach a class, or you can simply engage as a coach or helper! Please consider joining us!! ~~~ Art—The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.
