were giving their partner a spell check…and some
students were engaged in a speed sort…but ALL students

LET THE MUSIC BEGIN!
Moving to the notes of “O Canada” and “The StarSpangled Banner,” fifth grader students throughout St.
Clair County were treated to beautiful music presented by
the International Symphony Orchestra of Sarnia and Port
Huron directed by Douglas Bianchi. Our Pioneers heard
“The William Tell Overture” as well as selections from Star
Wars, and more. They had the opportunity to become
familiar with the works of Johann Strauss, John Philip
Sousa, and other famous musicians. Various orchestra
instruments were introduced and explained to the
students. Not only is this an experience in enjoying
beautiful, classical music and an opportunity to get a
better understanding of orchestral instruments, but the
students learn lessons in concert etiquette, too. Our fifth
graders were dressed befitting a special concert!
A RUMBLE FOR THE WIN!
It proved to be a real rumble when the Richmond Blue
Devils competed in Rumble in the Thumb tournament
games last Saturday in Port Huron. Pine River Pioneers,
Logan Ellis, corner; Luke Ellis, quarterback; Peyton Ellis,
water boy; Seth Henderson, defensive full back; Maddox
Mozal, center, and Denny Salagan, running back, are
members of the team and were instrumental in winning
the tournament.
The boys have been on the Blue Devils football team for
three years, so they know how to work as a team. They
follow the guidance of their coaches and practice discipline
and knowing their job on the team. That practice was put
to test when they resoundingly beat the Cros Lex
Pioneers, the North Detroit Jets, and the St. Clair Shores
Green Hornets during the tournament! Both Luke Ellis and
Denny Salagan scored touchdowns by “cutting back and
running through the middle.” All the boys agreed they
made a lot of good tackles, and Maddox Mozal was
emphatic when he declared that his team “never gives
up!”
Congratulations, Blue Devils, for rumbling for the win!
…A WIN ON THE ICE…
Seven different teams…seven different games…a total of
32 goals. Last week, fourth grader, Sutton Majeske, son of
Paula Peterson, and his team, the Mt. Clemens Wolves,
skated their way to victory. The team took first place in
the Bauer World Invite Hockey Tournament in Chicago.
Sutton believes the reason for their win is because they
skated hard, used good form, and were able to get past
the other players...in addition to making a combined total
of 32 goals!
Sutton has been playing hockey for seven years, since he
was two years old. On his current team, Sutton is the left
wing and plays on the left side of the rink. He loves to
score goals and feels hockey is not only fun, but helps
with his eye-hand coordination.
Congratulations, Sutton, on your big hockey victory!
LOST AND FOUND
Are you missing hats, gloves, coats, sweatshirts,
sweaters, lunch box, or other items? If so, there is a
very good possibility it is in our lost and found. Items are
accumulating, and we urge students and parents to look
through the bins the next time you are in our building.
