April 26, 2015 The Holy Spirit at Work in the Local Church! Fr. Lopez and I were among the hundreds of lay persons, seminarians, religious and priests attending the episcopal ordination of Fr. Mario Dorsonville at St. Matthew’s Cathedral this past Monday, April 20. the Cathedral was packed. The whole ceremony lasted over two hours (2 hours and 15 minutes, to be exact!). Cardinal Wuerl, Archbishop of our Local Church, the Archdiocese of Washington, was the principal Consecrator. The two principal Co-Consecrators were Archbishop Lori, Archbishop of Baltimore, and former Auxiliary Bishop of Washington (well-known to our Local Church) and Cardinal Oscar Andres Rodriguez Maradiaga, Archbishop of Tegucigalpa (Honduras) and Coordinator of the Council of Eight Cardinals established by Pope Francis to advise him on a regular basis. Every episcopal ordination requires three bishops to consecrate. Many other bishops were also present. From the long entrance procession of priests (close to 200) and bishops, until the closing remarks of our newly ordained Auxiliary Bishop Dorsonville, one could feel the presence of the Holy Spirit! What an awesome day for our Local Church! Our Archdiocese is truly blessed by the Holy Spirit. I have known Fr. Mario Dorsonville since I applied to Cardinal McCarrick to enter the seminary ten years ago. I have known Fr. Mario to be a good preacher. Clearly, the Holy Spirit was the One inspiring his closing remarks, which emphasized the unity of the whole Catholic Church and of our own Local Church (Archdiocese of Washington). I encourage you to read more about this major event in the forthcoming Catholic Standard. As I write this column (Tuesday morning), we are all excited here at OLHOC in Waldorf, as 27 teenagers of our own parish are going to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation! Auxiliary Bishop Knestout, as he did two years ago, will honor us with his presence! We pray that our 27 confirmands will be transformed by the Holy Spirit as Bishop Knestout anoints their foreheads with the sacred chrism oil blessed by Cardinal Wuerl earlier this month (the Chrism Mass during Holy Week) and will say the sacramental words of Confirmation: “ Be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit!” And each of the confirmands will then respond: “Amen!” Mass Intentions Saturday, April 25, 5:00 PM: Orlando & Mary Lagman Sunday, April 26, 8:30 AM: Charles Gallagher + Sunday, April 26, 10:00 AM: Vince Norbert Cruz + Sunday, April 26, 11:30 AM: OLHOC Parishioners Tuesday, April 28, 9:00 AM: Special Intention Prayer Requests We are asked to pray for: Trisha Johnson, Jean & Victor Talbot, Betty Paine, Cyndi Van Blarcom, Doris Chesley, James Thomson, Cynthia Gilmore, Kathy Baumgaertner, Danny Fluhart, Diane Sherman, Seth Lowe, Tina Krahling, David John Norgren, Nancy Robert, , Philip Muse, Louis A.
