The “Queen City” offers great hiking within the city and its suburbs and at nearby East Fork State Park (about 20 minutes from our hotel). Cincinnati is approximately 225 miles (3-1/2 hours) from the greater Akron area. Other attractions in the area include King’s Island, the renowned Newport Aquarium across the river in Kentucky, the unique Findlay Market, the Cincinnati zoo and riverboat cruises on the Ohio River. Lodging will be at the Holiday Inn Express in Milford; phone is 513-831-7829. Our Club has a block of 8 queen (2 bed) rooms. The group rate will be $119 per room + tax (provided we book the full 8 rooms or close to it. The hotel reserves the right to renegotiate the original room rate if a negative variance of more than 20% from the rooms originally booked is indicated in the final rooming list). Please state you are with the Akron Hiking Club when you make your reservation and confirm the group rate of $119. You must book by April 19; after that any rooms that have not been reserved from our block will go back into the general inventory and reservations will be taken based on availability. The location will be great for us as East Fork State Park is close as well as our hike on Friday evening. Downtown Cincinnati and the Ohio River are about 20 minutes away. The hotel will be undergoing a major renovation this winter and will be fully updated prior to our arrival in May. All rooms include free WiFi, refrigerators, microwaves, coffeemakers and flat-screen TVs and there is an indoor pool. Free hot breakfast included in the group rate. This is a good rate for Cincinnati as many hotels I called were charging $139 to $159. Our tentative itinerary will be: Friday – 4 mile hike at Cincinnati Nature Center (award winning trails) located in Milford OH (admission $6 – senior; $9 - adult); then dinner at Copper Blue in Milford Saturday - long hike on North Country and/or Buckeye Trail at East Fork State Park, then lunch in Amelia OH, followed by another shorter hike back at the park OR Free Time (Harmony Hills Winery, Newport Aquarium, Findlay Market, etc) Saturday night – dinner on the Ohio River in downtown Cincinnati @ Montgomery Inn Sunday - 3 mile round trip walk on the Riverwalk, crossing Ohio River to BB Riverboats in Newport KY and back – we’ll cruise the river on Dixieland jazz Sunday brunch cruise ($42 per person brunch and cruise or optional $22 cruise only) Please call me with any questions or suggestions – Chris Tiedemann – 330-524-9415
