MISSON STATEMENT
The purpose of the Guild shall be to provide an avenue to
enrich the community through quilt making, to stimulate an
interest in quilts to promote and advance the art of quiltmaking and related subjects and to encourage the preservation
of quilts and their history.
FROM THE PRESIDENT
Barbara Walker
Fellow Quilters,
It's hard to believe May is here. I enjoyed the recent rains and can now sit
back and watch things grow. The early spring flowers have been gorgeous.
I've spent time in my sewing room piecing quilts. That has made me think
of Tara's goal for last year to finish one UFO per month. That was a lofty goal,
but I believe she succeeded. At that time, I thought that I had no UFOs. But then,
I remembered all those embroidered quilt blocks that need to be pieced into tops!
I have five sets of finished blocks, with another set almost finished. The oldest
set is “Over the river...” That one has been around for awhile! So, here is my
goal: I will finish, pieced and quilted, at least four sets of these blocks by the
time my term as president ends.
Have you started your community service quilt? Happy quilting and I hope
to see you all at the May meeting.

NEWS FROM THE EDITOR
Tara Batman
The weather is getting warmer as the summer approaches which means that most of us
quilters will not be quilting in the sewing room. But while you are on vacation or
planting your gardens you must dream of quilts; I know I do but I take my quilting
with me because of the hand work I enjoy. While dreaming of new projects remember
the guild quilt challenge project coming up, time to do the planing. Here is some tips
from an article I read a few years ago about how to do a challenge project:
I read a magazine article entitled “Timeline for the Quilt-Challenged” by Lisa-Marie
Sanders. She asks three questions. 1. Have you participated in a quilt group challenge
where someone picks a theme and you build a quilt that complies with predefined
constraints? 2. How did you like it? 3. Did you survive? She continues, “For me it is
like pulling teeth to create a quilt according to someone else’s constraints.
Nonetheless, I participate year after year.” I feel somewhat the same. First comes
EXCITEMENT – the freedom of design, who knows what I might create; then PANIC
– this comes when I realize I’ve committed to something that I have no time, or ability
to complete; then comes PROCRASTINATION – I have sooo many things taking my
time, I will get to it tomorrow; then DESIGN – at some time, usually the middle of the
night when I’m happily asleep, an idea will hit me, only to awake and remember I had
an idea, but what was it?; the DEADLINE – the months shrink to weeks and then days;
the REALITY –ultimately the clock wins out, it is amazing how things come together
at the last minute; finally RELIEF – despite being tired, the relief of completing the
quilt lasts for days, all the struggles are overshadowed by the sense of
accomplishment; then ultimately REPEAT – eventually memories of the difficult quiltchallenge process fades, time passes and I surprise myself by accepting another quilt
challenge. Isn’t the quilt life grand? Use this information, a create a project for
February's challenge project. Have great summer fun and keep quilting.
NEWSLETTER DEADLINE: I will need all items that need to be printed in the
newsletter on the first Monday of each month which enable me to get the newsletter
out a week before the meeting; therefore you will have plenty of time to plan to come
and join the meeting. I really appreciate all of your help in getting the letter together.
Please contact me if you DO NOT receive your newsletter!! Also, feel free to contact
me with any news items or suggestions to make this newsletter more interesting.
ENJOY!!

The Trio is our annual fund raiser and will be October 15th.
Let's welcome the members who stepped up to be on the Trio
Committee note the names listed above.
This is the only money making project that we do a year and would like
to take this space to explain this to new members. The event has three
fun activities; a quilt show, luncheon and auction. We also have a quilt
that we sell opportunity tickets before the event, then the winner is
drawn on the Trio day.
First we start with the quilt show with racks of hanging quilts shown in
the lobby area. This show is open to the public for a few hours before
the luncheon for a small admission fee.
Next, the luncheon is by tickets which members sell before the event.
The lunch is served on tables decorated by members that sign up as
hostess. Each table will decorate by the hostess and they will service
Barbara Walker
their seven guests at their table. Eight on each table. If you are

Helpful Hints I spray all my acrylic
rulers very, very lightly with basting
spray, and then rub the whole area with
a piece of cotton batting. It makes them
lightly fuzzy and prevents the rulers
from slipping while you are cutting. –
