Hearts and Hugs – Information about hearts and symbols
of Valentine’s Day will be shared. The children will be
encouraged to find special ways to show their loved ones
they care.
All Kinds of Opposites – Learn all about opposites with some
fun activities that examine how two things can be very different.
Large and small, on and off, hot and cold, and fast and slow. Can
the children come up with others?
Activities f
or
Ho m e!
• If possible, have your child help you prepare cards or treats to
share with friends and relatives for Valentine’s Day. Visit with
your child about each special person as you are creating his
or her gift.
• February is Children’s National Dental Health Month.
Encourage your child to brush at least twice a day. It is
recommended that toothpaste not be used until the age of
two years, and only an amount the size of a pea is needed.
Introduce flossing and rinsing if your child is not already
familiar with them. Encourage your family to choose healthy
snacks.
• Point out opposites throughout the day as you notice them.
Doors can be open or closed. The temperature can be warm
or cold. Snacks may be sweet or salty. Try to find opposites
that can be experienced with all the senses. Act out opposites.
Practice being quiet and loud while clapping, stomping,
talking, or singing. Open and close hands, eyes, and mouths.
Walk, run, dance, and hop fast and slow.
• February is American Heart Month. The American Heart
Association recommends that adults exercise for 30 minutes at
least three to four times a week. Involve your child in physical
activity. Go for walks or ride a bike. Play music and hold a
family dance party in your living room. Allow your child to
help plan meal or snack menus that include a food item from
each of the healthy food groups. Habits start at an early age.
Make each habit a healthy one!

Filled with lace and candy.
Oh, I have a great big heart just for you!
