How big is the boundary between reality and the virtual
world? Is there technology that will
let you grab pixels and create
buildings with your own hands?
Jinha Lee has created the technology that allows you to grab pixels with your hands. This means
that the boundary between reality
and the virtual world is gone. Jinha Lee has created glass tables
that allow 3D drawings to be put
into real life. He created a special
pen along with the table. With this
technology, architects can create
virtual buildings without using up
paper. This table can also help
district staff by using it for math.
Barely touching the tip of the
iceberg, Jinha Lee has also created a computer that allows you to
do the unimaginable. This computer has a transparent screen
that folds up. There is a virtual
touchpad at the bottom and a keyboard. This computer allows websites to be pulled up and viewed
with your fingers. Everything is
controlled with your fingers. Website addresses need to be put into
the system to use them in the future. Along with controlling with
your fingers, builders can now assemble objects and color them as
they please. This program on the
computer will allow engineers and
architects to build without use of
actual materials. Even college and
university students could use this technology to learn through hands-on classes. It is amazing to think what can happen.
Now, along with virtual pixels, real
life pixels can also be moved. Jinha
Lee invented magnets that move on
a track and is controlled by a computer. There are multiple settings on
the computer program to do different
things. One of them is the recording of
movement. This means that the magnets move with the metal “pixel” and the
movement is recorded. Then, there is a
playback button to play the movement
over and over. Along with this, there is a
program to understand planets and
gravity. With this, certain objects inflict
different “gravity” fields. It even includes
our solar systems planets. The idea of
this would help future astrologists understand orbits of planets and the sun.
From drawing 3D buildings to virtual
dress rooms, from virtual to reality, the
border from virtual to real life is dissipated.

Sup Blobert by ????
'Sup Blobert,
Why are the boys in the 4th grade so mean? Boys are mean
100 percent each day. Will boys ever be nice?
Sincerely,
Stop, Walk, and Talk,
'Sup Blobert,
I am having trouble keeping my grades up. It has gotten
so bad that my parents might pull me out of sports. I know
that my grades are going downhill fast, but I still want to
participate in sports. I don't know which one is more important. If I quit sports, I won't be happy but if I keep doing
sports, my parents won't be happy. I feel torn, what should
I do?
Sincerely,
Dear Stop, Walk, and Talk,
I think with boys it just takes them time to mature. They may
seem mean now but they could turn around. Until then if it is really bad, you should tell an adult. You could also surround yourself
with a new group of friends because your true friends will not let
you get bullied.
Sincerely,
Blobert
Torn
Dear Torn,
If your grades are slipping, you should get your priorities
straight. If you really love sports, then that should not be
your first priority. The reason being is that you can't be
failing to play sports. You should consider a tutor. A tutor
could meet you after practice so you can do something
about your grades and do sports at the same time.
Sincerely,
Blobert
Storytelling With WMS Students by Keegan
At lunch one day, I got a black smudge on my hand, and I was very confused about where it
came from. I just shrugged it off and kept eating. Less than a minute later I looked at my
hand again and there were more smudges. At this point I was really confused, and tried for a
while to figure out what was causing the smudges. I decided to just forget it and keep eating.
As we were about to leave, I discovered that a piece of paper had gotten ink on the table and
that was what had been smudging my hand.

One day I was walking down the street after watching a movie, and I was wondering about
why movies always had birds pooping on peoples’ shoulders. I was nearly done with the walk
when a bird flew over my head, and decided to fertilize my shoulder. I was kind of amazed at
the coincidence and also that the bird had such good aim.

Unusual Foods by Christina
Durian
Regarded by many people in Southeast Asia as the "king of fruits", the durian is known for its large size, strong odor, and
thorn-covered husk. The fruit can grow as large as twelve inches long and six inches in diameter, and it typically weighs two to
seven pounds. Its shape ranges from round to egg-shaped, the color of its husk green to brown, and its flesh pale yellow to red,
depending on the species.
The edible flesh emits a distinctive odor that is strong even when the husk is intact. Some people say that the durian has a
pleasant smell; others find the aroma disgusting. The smell has reactions varying from deep affection to intense disgust, and it has been described as rotten onions,
turpentine, and raw sewage. The disliking of its odor has led to the fruit's banishment from certain hotels and public transportation in Southeast Asia.
The durian, native to Southeast Asia, has been known to the Western world for about 600 years. The nineteenth-century British naturalist, Alfred Russel Wallace, famously described its flesh as “a rich custard highly flavored with almonds.” The flesh can be consumed at various stages of ripeness, and it is used to flavor
a wide variety of foods in Southeast Asian cuisines. The seeds can also be eaten when cooked.
There are 30 recognized Durio species, at least nine of which produce edible fruit. Durio zibethinus is the only species available in the international market;
other species are sold in their local regions. There are hundreds of different durians; many consumers express preferences for a specific durian, which causes it to
fetch higher prices in the market.
In order to purchase one of these smelly fruits you would have to travel 228 miles to Portland. It would cost you around $15.00 to purchase one. Not a lot of
stores carry these fruits due to the extremely potent smell. The likelihood of finding one in small town is very low.
Have you ever tried a durian? The real question is, if you found a durian, would you be brave enough to push past the smell and taste it? Many people love it,
and many people highly dislike it. You may never know which group you’ll join until you try it.

Sports by Johanna
In the Arctic Winter Games, there is
actually a competitive sport called Head
Pull. Head Pull is where two competitors
are in a plank position and have a leather
loop placed around their heads. The goal is
to pull your opponent across the designated line or to pull the leather loop off your
opponent’s head. In a way, this sport is a bit
like the well- known game Tug of War, but a
bit more complex. Head Pull is held around
the beginning of March. This game was invented by the aboriginal inhabitants of
northern Canada, Siberia, Greenland, and
Alaska as a form of entertainment. It was
also used as a form to keep fit during the
long, dark, winter days. To compete in the

games, competitors must participate in a three- part process: regional
trials, territorial trials, and finally, the
games themselves.
Just like in the Olympics, the top three
winners receive gold,
silver, and bronze
medals. The medals,
however, is hand
carved by the Inuit
people using an allpurpose knife. These medals are
called Ulus. Head Pull is one of the
most watched games in the Arctic Winter Games because of the competitors’
impressive strength and skill.
