INSTRUCTION INDEX Before you Start 2 Pitching your Tent 3-6 Kelty Technology 7 Notes and Warranty 8 • Anchor your tent securely to provide additional security from changing climatic conditions. Snow pegs, skis and/or heavy rocks may be necessary to supplement tent stakes and guy cords 2 SETTING UP YOUR TENT SETTING UP YOUR TENT (CONT.) 1. Assemble the poles (figures 1A, 1B and 1C). Avoid having the shockcord snap the pole sections together, this can damage the poles. 6. Stake the tent down (figures 4A and 4B)! Figure 4A Figure 1A Figure 1C Figure 1B Figure 4B STAKING TIPS • IF YOU’RE HAVING A HARD TIME STAKING INTO THE GROUND, USE ROCKS TO ANCHOR DOWN YOUR TENT. (SEE ILLUSTRATION) • TO GET THE TAUTEST PITCH, START AT ANY CORNER, THEN MOVE TO THE DIAGONAL CORNER FOR EACH STAKE. 2. Spread the tent body on the ground. 3. Locate the open ends of the sleeves (HiVis green). 4. Slide a pole, ball-end first into one of the sleeves. Feed it in until it fully seats against the closed end (figures 2A and 2B). Repeat with other two poles. ATTACHING THE FLY 7. Find the zippers in the fly. These will be the vestibule entrances at the front and back of the tent. Drape the fly over the tent body with the zippers over the doors (figure 5). Figure 2A Figure 2B 5. Flex each pole and set the tip into the plastic grommet buckle (figures 3A and 3B). Figure 3A Figure 3B 3 4 Figure 5 8. Clip the buckles on the fly to the buckles at each corner of the tent body (figures 6A and 6B). ATTACHING FLYBOY 13. Attach FlyBoy. FlyBoy consists of a patch that is permanently affixed to the fly and a plastic clip that anchors the body, poles and fly together. A. FlyBoy™: A- patch B- clip (figure 7) B. Center and pinch patch around pole (figure 8). C. Slide clip to top of elastic and center over rainfly Figure 6A Figure 6B and pole (figure 9). D. Press clip onto rainfly and pole above patch (figure 10). E. Slide clip down onto patch and into place (figure 11). 11. Stake out the vestibules at the front and back of the tent so that they are taut. 12. Cinch the webbing on the fly buckles at each corner of the tent. TAKING DOWN YOUR TENT TIPS • PUSH Figure 8 Figure 7 Figure 9 OUT TENT POLES STARTING FROM THE SLEEVES CLOSED ENDS. (PULLING SEPARATES THE SECTIONS IN THE SLEEVE.) Figure 10 Figure 11 GUY OUT WITH FLYBOY = anchors 5 6 = guy line = FlyBoy patch If you run two cords at an angle from the side, all movement except toward the anchors will be prevented. Once you start using cords from the side it becomes clear that they are much more useful than straight-out cords. TENT TECHNOLOGY NOTES & TIPS • Fire near your tent is a NO-NO. Your tent can burn. Never cook in your tent or use candles for light inside. • To minimize UV damage from the sun, don’t keep tent set up for long periods of time or when not in use. • If you pitch the tent in a wind, anchor the tent before you put the poles in. Gear alone probably won’t hold down your tent even in winds as light as 25mph. Many tents have been destroyed by unexpected winds rolling them away with gear inside! In strong winds you will want to anchor every stake loop and guyout. Webforce™ consists of two parts. The first is the “trusses” at the pole sleeve intersections. These guide the pole through the intersection, easing set-up, and eliminating any independent movement of the poles, thus automatically strengthening the structure. The second part is the Webforce™ “tendons” on the fly, which lock stakeout points to FlyBoy™, preventing any stretch or movement under even the heaviest winds. • The best way to use rocks for staking and guying out in rocky terrain is to find one large and one small rock. Tie a piece of cord from your stake or guy-out point around the small rock, set the large rock on top of the cord right next to the small rock, pull back until it’s tight. (See p. 4) • Leaving the fly on the tent when you take it down is sometimes handy. Packing the tent and fly as a single connected unit speeds setup and the tent will be immediately protected from rain when you pull it out next time. Before packing you should dry out the tent and fly. This way you won’t have to carry water rolled into the tent and it will help keep the tent from mildewing. Kelty’s patented FlyBoy™ is a lightweight and simple solution to one of the last big tent problems; anchoring the rainfly to the underlying poles. The FlyBoy™ consists of a patch permanently affixed to the fly and a plastic clip that clamps the body, poles, and fly together into a single, unitized self-reinforcing structure. Flyboy™ also accepts guyline to create a stronger and more stable structure. WARRANTY Kelty takes pride in its workmanship and undertakes to manufacture the best possible products. Arcedge Floor Construction Tent floor/side seams have a catenary cut and are sewn with bias binding on the inside of the tent. This lifts the floor construction seams off the ground to prevent water leakage. 7 8 6235 LOOKOUT ROAD, BOULDER CO 80301 800.423.2320 • FAX 800.504.2745 • WWW.KELTY.COM
