Resolutions
A Motivational Programme for Leaner and More Productive Staff
Introduction
The start of the New Year is a time for resolutions and for many people that means a desire to lose
some weight and become more toned. So this year we would like to help turn this desire into a
reality and provide an additional incentive, at no cost to the employer/company.
Why most of us could do with losing a few pounds of excess weight
As a Person, you want:
 To look good and feel
better
 To be more confident
 To be the one
everyone wants in
their team
 To safeguard your
position as respected
employee
 To take positive
action for a healthier
future
As an employer, you want:
 To reduce levels of
absenteeism
 Have fewer people
turning up for work
who are sick
(presenteeism)
 To reduce the effects
of stress related
illnesses on your staff
 To improve the health
and resilience of your
workforce
 To demonstrate that
you have the welfare
of your staff as a
priority
Why Employers Should Act
The facts as recorded by the Office for National Statistics are that (In 2013) a staggering 131 million
days were lost in the UK through sickness. 31 million days through aches and pains, 27
million days from minor illnesses and 15 million days from depression.
How is this reflected in your company?
In February 2014 it was recorded that our area is in the top ten list in a survey of obesity. We have
74% of the adult population with a BMI of over 30 and therefore classed as obese. So in any one
company it is logical to suggest that the majority would reflect this survey result.
Even without the facts, most of us know we could do with losing some weight. Weight loss helps
boost confidence, improves efficiency and has a positive effect on everyone who otherwise have to
cover for colleagues who are off sick or perhaps worse, have turned up for work but spend the day
moaning about how bad they feel.
My Message
How and what a person eats, has the greatest
effect on weight loss or gain and while exercise is
important, exercise has a lesser impact on body
weight than most people appreciate.
Exercise does burn calories but the greatest
benefit from a workout comes from feeling good
and so a person is less inclined to eat for
comfort.
“Change what you eat to control your weight and exercise for pleasure”
The Resolution Programme
By providing information, inspiration, motivation and method, we will give your employees an
opportunity to lose weight and specifically body fat. The reason I differentiate between weight loss
and fat loss is:
 That with appropriate exercise added, a person may shed 5kg of body fat and gain 2 kg of
muscle with a net loss of 3kg – this person has made a significant and positive change to
body composition and metabolic function.
 Whereas with no exercise, another person may shed 5kg of body fat, lose muscle and have a
net loss in excess of 5kg because of the inevitable loss of some lean muscle mass.
1.
Information
Standing on our biometric scales with bare feet, and having ascertained their height, age and
gender, we will produce the start data for every person which includes:
Body Weight, Percentage of Body Fat, Muscle Mass, Bone Weight, BMI, Daily Calorie
Intake, Metabolic Age, Hydration Level, Visceral Fat Rating, and measurements at Chest,
Waist and Hips.
Then, after 12 weeks, we will take the same measurements and make a comparison.
 We will allow 15 minutes per person for each of these measurements and can
schedule the appointments ourselves with no other involvement or cost to the
company.
2. Inspiration
Anyone signing up for the programme will receive encouragement and support from our
team, direct communication by email, face to face conversations during fitness training (if
they attend) and weekly tips.
3. Motivation
The setting of a goal linked to a timescale will help to motivate as will the encouragement of
our team and of colleagues but perhaps the main motivator is the cash reward.
4. Method
We will promote healthier eating habits which for most if not all will be, in its simplest form
to avoid foods that are high in sugar, processed food, and the wrong types of fat and
encourage eating “clean” food that is fresh, locally produced and identifiable as to what it is.
We will give specific advice for tried and tested “diets” such as Low GL, Paleo, Fasting and
our own “Leaner Eating Programme which eliminates foods likely to be the cause of
bloating, wind or inflammation.
Throughout the programme we will also encourage the introduction of relevant daily
exercise
Rewards
The beauty of this programme is that everyone
who participates will benefit from feeling and
looking better;
The Company will be rewarded with healthier,
more effective and efficient employees and you
will start the year with a positive impact on
wellness.
But of course the cash prize is also a reward.
The Prize – Simple Rules
 We will start with £100 into the prize pot.
 Every participant (who must be an employee over 18 years of age) will be asked to
contribute £10 to the prize pot with their initial measurement
 We will further match every £10 – into the pot
 At the end of the 12 week period we will adjudge the winners to be:
1st Prize – With 100% of the total pot - the person who has lost the most body fat (as a
percentage of body weight) added to the percentage change of muscle mass (as a positive if
a gain and negative if a loss)
Example 1:
At the end of a 12 week period Andrew weighs in at 70kg, his body fat percentage
was 16.8% and is now 10.3% so regardless of his weight loss, he has lost 6.5% of his
total body fat
But he also gained 2% of lean (muscle) mass so his score would be 6.5% plus 2%
making a total score of 8.5
Example 2:
At the end of a 12 week period Jerome weighs in at 98kg, his body fat percentage
was 38.2% and is now 27.0% so regardless of his weight loss, he has lost 11.2% of his
total body fat
But he also lost 4.1% of lean (muscle) mass so his score would be 11.2% minus 4.1%
making a total score of 7.1
In the event of a tie, we will also compare the hydration level results and award the person
with the highest hydration level. With this method, regardless of how big or how small a
person is, we create a level playing field.
Cost
Cost to the employer £0 – The prize pot will be provided
by Celebrate Health & Fitness and from the individuals
who participate.
We ask only that the company actively promotes the
scheme internally, provides a room for measurements and
the time staff need, which on average will be two times 15
minutes.
If the company would like to contribute more, we can
discuss options e.g. a team prize or a re-visit at a later date
to see who has kept the weight off?
Cost to each individual employee that participates - £10 on sign up.
Cost to Celebrate Health & Fitness - £100 + price match for every £10 paid by the participants.
What else?
With your agreement, we would like to do more. Our team of Personal Trainers, Nutrition Experts
and Massage Therapists can deliver presentations and seminars and even cookery lessons for
healthier eating and healthy living.
We can add regular fitness training sessions in your gym or office space, at home for key employees
and outdoors at a time and day to suite your working day.
We can provide fun days, sporting events and challenges to test teams and individuals and improve
team cohesion.
We can conduct a full wellness survey to ascertain attitudes and preferences from your staff and to
recommend changes to vended or canteen food, the cakes culture, eating at desks and advice to
reduce stress levels and regular exercise.
We can provide additional health tests including: Blood pressure, cholesterol levels, blood lips, blood
sugar levels and Peak flow (lung) capacity
Some of this we would do for free and some as a paid service but it all starts with a conversation.
