Scott Slocum and WJOL are once again partnering with
Norwegian Cruise Line for a July sailing in Alaskan waters
onboard the Norwegian Pearl. This ship features 15 decks
with 15 dining options, 12 bars/lounges, fitness center, spa, casino, bowling alley, and pools. This is a
smaller ship with a capacity of 2394 passengers. Temperatures should be perfect for touring with daytime
highs in the mid-60°s. Come sail the waters of our 49th state with Scott!

Mountains serving as a dramatic backdrop for this oh-so cosmopolitan city. Soar up the futuristic Space
Needle and experience the views atop this stunning landmark created for the 1962 World's Fair.

Tuesday, July 18
Juneau, Alaska
In port from 2-10 pm
Juneau, often described as America's most unusual state capital, is the only center of U.S. government
with no roads leading into or out of town. The city is surrounded by nature, namely towering mountains
and the waters of Gastineau Channel. Gold put Juneau on the map in the 1880s, and the mining camp
went by several names before prospector Joe Juneau finally wrangled enough votes to get his name to
stick. Gold remained the mainstay until the last mine was shut down in 1944. However, mining has made
a comeback as one of the region's top industries; in recent decades, two mines have begun production of
not just gold but also silver and other metals. Juneau offers a wide range of shore-side activities, from
whale-watching and zip-lining to touring the Capitol building or the Alaskan Brewing Co. Then, there's the
state's most accessible glacier -- Mendenhall, an immense, 12-mile-long river of ice. Along with glacierviewing, there's always the chance of seeing a bear or two up close. There are over 40 excursions offered
in this port!
Wednesday, July 19
Skagway, Alaska

In 1897, gold stampeders from all over the world arrived in Skagway by steamship, bound for the Dawson
Gold Fields in Canada's Yukon Territory. It wasn't long before the rough-and-tumble tent town was
festooned with boardwalks, dance halls, inns and saloons. More than 100 years later, Skagway still
retains the feel of those Gold Rush days, though most travelers now arrive by cruise ship and follow part
of the original Gold Rush route by tourist train. The immensely walkable and historic downtown has also
largely been restored to its roots, complete with false-fronted buildings and wooden sidewalks. It's an
utterly charming place.

Cruise Glacier Bay
Photos don't do justice for Glacier Bay National Park. One of the most sought-after spots on Alaska's
Inside Passage, Glacier Bay comprises ever-changing glaciers (including one of the most photogenic,
Margerie Glacier), sheltered fjords, rainforests and an abundance of wildlife. While navigating through
the park, keep your camera handy at all times. Glacier Bay is a popular hangout for humpback whales,
grizzly, brown and black bears, sea otters, bald eagles, and more -- there's a good chance you'll spot at
least one of them.

Ketchikan, Alaska

Misty Ketchikan, the rainiest town in southeast Alaska, is known as the "Salmon Capital of the World."
The town offers the perfect blend of activities: kayak in Misty Fjords or hike up Deer Mountain early in
the morning, then poke in and out of fantastic galleries and shops afterwards. You're bound to visit Creek
Street, a row of wooden buildings perched over the water on pilings. Brightly painted boutiques once
catered to gentlemen seeking the company of "sporting women." The museum at Dolly's House gives
you a glimpse into the bawdy ways of frontier life, though Ketchikan's red-light district wasn't shut down
until 1953. Legends of a different sort are recorded on totem poles. Boasting the world's largest
collection of Northwest totems, Ketchikan offers plenty of places to see these fascinating works of art. Its
Tlingit Indian name, Kach Khanna, means “spread wings of the eagle.” Chances are you'll see one of
these magnificent birds perched atop a Sitka tree. Thanks to its abundant rainfall, Ketchikan is
surrounded by some of the world's most lush wilderness.

Victoria, British Columbia

Wrapped around the southern tip of Vancouver Island, Victoria is a gentle blend of colonial England and
contemporary Western Canada. The thriving cafe scene conjures something European, while having the
outdoors at your doorstep could only be pure British Columbia bliss. Wherever you venture, this
famously temperate region reveals natural, historic, culinary and cultural delights. Proud of its British
influence, Victoria delights in serving up an elegant High Tea, with all the trappings. At the same time, it
urges you to get outside and enjoy the alfresco lifestyle. Walking trails lead right from the city center to
Dallas Road, what locals call the scenic drive, along the Pacific Ocean and around the southern coast of
the city. Vancouver Island is renowned as a world-class scuba-diving destination, where you can get in
the water with seals and sea lions on a regular basis. But, for people who prefer to keep their feet dry,
there are all kinds of boat excursions, from kayaking and glass-bottom-boat tours, to get you up close and
personal with the amazing marine life. Victoria is the capital city of British Columbia, and its grand
Parliament Buildings, along with the gracious Fairmont Empress Hotel, dominate the Inner Harbour.
Adjacent walkable inner-city streets foster cordiality. And, indeed, walking is a favorite local pastime -Victoria is lauded as one of the most walkable Canadian cities. An area of handsome 19th-century brick
buildings, windows hung with richly textured flower baskets and lively shops, restaurants and brewpubs,
invite leisurely exploration. Or you can just kick back with a picnic on the grassy lawn of the Parliament
Building or find a bench by the harbor to breathe in all that fresh, Pacific Northwest air while listening to a
busker belt out a tune. Just beyond downtown, luxuriant yet well-ordered parks and gardens and a
rugged, wind-swept Pacific shoreline offer broader vistas and invite you to set off on boat excursions to
explore the coastline and soak in the snowy peaked views. So many choices - roam the spacious lawns of
stunning Butchart Gardens with its exotic flora, unusual topiary and exquisite fountains. Explore historic
Bastion Square or the treasures of Chinatown – this will be a wonderful evening.

General Information
Air Transportation: Flights will be available beginning in mid-August, 2016. Airport: SEA (Seattle)
Documentation: You will need a passport valid until at least January 2018. For this (and other travel you
may have planned): Airlines are slowly adopting the Real ID Act and accepting only enhanced IDs or
passports for all flights, even within the US. Canada may start accepting enhanced IDs from US citizens, we
will keep you posted, for now, be sure you have a passport.
What's Included? Cruise fare, port fees, government taxes, mandatory ship gratuities, group gatherings,
mealsA, ultimate beverage packageB, and $100 per cabin credit to spend as you like.
Insurance: Through experience, we have made it our policy not to include travel insurance in package
pricing. While including it makes it easier for you, finding that your needs are not covered by a universal
policy makes that coverage a waste of money. We recommend independent internet sites (such as
travelinsurancereview.net) or your preferred insurance agent to find the coverage you need based on your
work status, health, and choice of coverage level. A policy for this trip, covering the customary inclusions
can be expected to cost $150-$250 per person. (Cost is based on total trip cost, age, and desired coverage
inclusions.) Insurance is optional. We will assist you in obtaining a policy if so desired.
Cruise Documents: NCL provides all travel documents electronically and requires advance online check-in.
Each traveler will be required to set up an account at ncl.com and complete the check-in process prior to
departure. If you do not have access to the internet, please check the appropriate box on the registration
form and we will contact you for the information necessary to get you checked in and obtain your
documents when the time comes.
Dining: NCL has a reputation for re-imagining the whole concept of cruising by creating Freestyle Dining.
There are numerous dining options available to please your palate. Your choices include eight
complimentary restaurants, six specialty options A (surcharge or a la carte pricing - steakhouse,
churrascaria, French, Teppanyaki, Italian, sushi), as well as room service. [ASpecialty restaurants have a
cover charge and 18% service fee; room service at certain hours may have a $7.95 service fee.]
Entertainment, Amenities, Bars, & Lounges: The Norwegian Pearl has numerous spots to enjoy
entertainment, a chat with friends, or some simple solitude. The ship features: ball courts, walking/jogging
track, outdoor pools, hot tub, spa, fitness center, library, card room, and shopping. Entertainment options
currently on board include a stage show, comedy variety and magician shows, bowling alley and a disco.
Plus, you will find a full-action casino, upscale cigar room, wine and champagne tasting bars and daily
activities. And don’t forget NCL’s trademark White Hot Party!
Beverage Package: Effective July, 2016, NCL no longer allows carry on of any beverage. BNorwegian's
Ultimate Beverage Package includes a variety of spirits, cocktails, wines by the glass, and bottled or draft
beer up to and including $15 USD and unlimited fountain soda and juices at all bars, lounges, and
restaurants. A 20% discount will be applied to all bottles of wine purchased on board. The Ultimate
Beverage Package does not include room service, package sales, ship specific promotions or beer buckets,
designated Super Premium brands (subject to change), bottled wine, mini bar purchases, bottled water,
fresh squeezed juices, select Lavazza coffee beverages, energy drinks, vending machines, or wine stations,
spirits, cocktails, draft or bottled beer or glasses of wine over $15 USD. One (1) beverage per person per
transaction. Any items over $15 USD will receive a $15 USD discount and the guest will have the difference
charged to their account.
